Court Filing Fee paid, it was indeed £70 - I'll just need to be aware not to go over the £1000 threshold once costs are included (although I think given the amount I've spent on this at £19 per hour I'm likely to be a couple of hundred £ over - assume I could pay the additional fee if needed).

Yes but the difference is, when you file a counterclaim, the DQ has to be returned to your local court that the letter attaching the DQ states. Not to the CCBC. But the letter will tell you that.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
