I hope you enjoy your retirement, I think you'll have a ball. I had 10 years off work when I was widowed (on an MOD widow's pension which I still have together with widowed parent's allowance etc) and I have to say I was never bored. Holiday childcare is hard to come by so I went back to work but only part time when my son was 14 and could be left by himself during school holidays. I'm looking forward to hearing about your Scottish trip. My late mum and gran were both born in Glasgow and my sister and I have a trip to Glasgow, The Black Isle (where gran lived during the war) and Iona (where our family are from way back when) on our bucket lists.3

Himself and I retired about ten years ago as well. Small works pensions but luckily our retirement pensions kicked in when expected (aged 60 for me and 65 for him) so we have enough to live on without scrimping. We live fairly simply and as we rent from local authority no worries about house repairs etc. Neither or us drive so the same with no expense car wise. We've done lots of things that we always wanted to do and have been really happy with our lives. I think what I'm trying to say to you is you now have the time to do things that you want to do so go for it. And I so envy your trip to the Highlands. I don't think we're going to be able to do our "Great European Train Journeys" this year or next so I've got a list of places in the UK that I want to visit. Just have to figure out how to. Enjoy yourself.Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.4

Sorry @doingitanyway! I missed your earlier post as it crossed with mine. I enjoyed Ullapool when I went there a couple of years ago. We had a very tasty meal at the well-known Seafood Shack and a beautiful boat ride around the Summer Isles.Thank you @CRANKY40 - I've been to Glasgow several times over the years for long weekends and loved it! It's a great city - I want to go back there for another visit! I hope you have a fabulous time there and also get to see the isles on your bucket list!@Toni'sfriend - you and your OH sound as if you've really enjoyed your retirement. And it's heartening to read that one can have a good, full varied life when retired whilst living simply. I'm the same as you and your OH in that I don't drive but try not let this stop me in getting around. I do hope you get to go on your European train journeys in the not too distant future - I'm mulling over some escorted tours - historically themed hopefully. Thanks @Sunshine_girl2 - I managed clearing out the freezer, hoovering and also changed the bedding! Junk drawer has been left till tomorrow!🤣Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟

Thank you so much @milann and @Onebrokelady😃
I had a really nice day yesterday - DSis and I had our day spa package which she and her OH bought my for my birthday. It was lovely - started with a glass of Prosecco in the hot tub then a full body and head massage followed by a body scrub. We then had a light lunch with cocktails - I had a falafel wrap with fresh fruit, crisps and olives. Afterwards we had a hour long facial followed by a pedicure. The whole experience was really enjoyable. 😃Afterwards DSis treated me to a late birthday early dinner at one of our local Italian restaurants. They have just finished renovating their outdoor rooftop dining area - it looked so beautiful - they had covered the sides in big summer faux flowers. It was like sitting in a rather lovely patio garden. 🌺🥀🌸🌹Although yesterday was sunny and warm here in Seasideville it began to get a bit chilly so the waiters brought out blankets to put around your knees. The food was delish too - I'm afraid I went off-vegan and had rigatoni with lamb and limoncello parfait for dessert. 2 for 1 cocktails as well so two Bellinis for me and two !!!!!! Stars for DSis - oh and wine!🤪
Today has been more subdued 😴. I finished off sorting out the food cupboards that I began on Monday, plus laundry and dusting and hoovering the living room.Scrimpy MSE Retirement Things
Nothing spent apart from the tip for the spa girls yesterday. My ex-boss also contacted me to let me know that there is an option to buy some more shares of my little punt stock at what is looking like a very favourable price. The stock has done very well since purchase and the offer looks good, so I think I will buy a few more. Finally Debt Free! - July 2016 🌟
