    Thank you @beanielou and @HairyHandofDartmoor. 😃

I love Edinburgh Hairy - I've been there for a couple of weekend city breaks over the years and always enjoyed myself. It's a very interesting and wonderfully historic city. The surrounding countryside is nice too so I'm sure you'll have a lovely time exploring when you next visit your sister. 😃

Yesterday didn't end with a NSD after all. DD's friend and neighbour emailed when she found out DD and OH were working to see if I wanted to drive into the village and have a coffee as she had to go there to pick up some things. I said yes - DD then finished her work calls earlier than expected so she joined us. We drove to the cafe that belongs to the local holiday chalet site. It was really nice and not too expensive. I bought the coffees and cake and we sat next to the big window which looks out over the lawn to the sea.

Today I've did some washing for DD and OH and hung it out. The weather started overcast but is now bright sunshine with a nice breeze. We're having a run out to another village to have lunch at the cafe that was closed the other day - apparently there is an interesting bric a brac shop there too so will have a mooch.

  • You sound like you're having a lot of fun SSG. I love having coffee or lunch out and a good chat with friends or relatives. It's a simple pleasure but so enjoyable. Yes I'm looking forward to getting to know Edinburgh and want to climb Arthur's Seat and visit the castle among other things.

    Thank you all!😃

@doingitanyway - I hear you with regard to driving!  It is something to seriously think about.  I don't drive and therefore I couldn't see myself living in a very rural hamlet like DD and OH as the village is seven miles away with no public transport!  (bit like 'Hotel California' - you can check out but you can never leave!🤣). The only way I could is if I had a granny annexe attached to them or lived quite close! The village would be better as at least there are the local shops on hand but there is only one bus in the morning that goes to Inverness (two hour journey) and one return in the early evening. No train station for miles.

I think you will enjoy Edinburgh @Onebrokelady and @HairyHandofDartmoor. I love the castle - it's really medieval and atmospheric.  Holyrood Palace is beautiful - more elegant and with lovely garden spaces.

Thank you for your good wishes @amber03 - I'm pleased to hear you're enjoying your retirement too and have now found the right balance between spending relaxing days and doing the things one longed for when still working. I shall follow your example. 👍

The weather was absolutely baking yesterday - we had the run out to the other village - had a really nice lunch - I'm rather off vegan this holiday - too many tasty things to eat!  I had home made fishfingers with sardine ketchup on a flatbread. It was delicious!😋. We went to the bric a brac shop - it was quite small so not an immense amount to look at. There was a shelf of old tins - Black Magic chocolates, Highland shortbread etc. I'm beginning to feel my age now as I'm sure I had one of the biscuit tins one Christmas decades ago!🤣

The weather is overcast today but no sign of the rain that was originally forecast - but who knows - the weather can change in an instant up here!🌞☔️💨

DD, OH and little nephew are on their way now - their flight gets in later this afternoon so they should be here early evening.   Will be getting the blow up bed ready later.
