Seiss grant 4 incorrect

So in a nutshell years 1,2,3 SE earnings were low , so op only wants year 4 to be used to calculate SEISS. That would be a bit unfair on those that never had a secondary job/income and just had low earning in years 1,2,3?

So is SEISS 4 only available for those who have been self-employed for 4 years or more? Can you be refused if your PAYE income in the earlier years is larger than your SE income later on?
I have just been refused SEISS 4 after having received the first 3. My 19-20 income was 100% self-employed, I filed my tax return on time (I've checked) and I did not earn over £50k. Nothing at all has changed except I earned more that year than the previous one theat the previous grants were based on.
Can anyone shed any light on this? I'm going to try phoning at 8am when they open but I'm not optimistic.0 -
confused.com2 said:I've got a similar query. Went self employed end of 2018. Didn't earn over 1k so didn't complete a tax return in 2019, but I did inform HMRC of my total earnings for child tax credits purposes. Business started going well and I had a good year 2019/2020. I'm now entitled to the 4th grant due to completing the latest tax return. I'm wondering if they'll only use the figures from my latest tax return or use the figure I submitted for child tax credits as well. I can apply Thursday so I suppose I'll find out. It will drag down my average horrendously!
As everything about the SEISS grants seems to be 100% based on tax returns filed by the relevant deadlines then I cannot see how that first year could be taken into account as there is no tax return information available for HMRC to use.0 -

They used those years as an excuse to not pay us, and now they are using them to their advantage to pay us less0 -

As you've already been told, if you don't like it then speak to your MP.4 -

those people would be quid's in using your method.0 -
No it is not. As you appear to pass the 50% and £50,000 tests based on 2019/20, you should be able to claim SEISS 4, assuming all other criteria are met.
Thanks for this, it's sorted now, you were entirely correct. :-:smile:Emergency fund £8,500/£8,500

Well because he earned self employment for those years. SELF EMPLOYED INCOME SUPPORT SCHEME!
This based off self employed income.0 -
Interestingly I got the first 3 payments and my payment increased for the forth.
Annoyingly for me I had been growing my business since 16/17 with profits increasing each year.
I could say they intentionally didn't include 19/20 so they could pay less on 1 to 3.
The reality is the rules are in place and it will better/worse depending on what figures go in, they didn't set the rules to have an excuse to pay less as they are now paying me more.
