HSBC, as usual, are making it unnecessarily difficult.

I believe they do have a dedicated switch team on  0345 587 3430 who should be able to help, Mo to Fri 8.30 am to 6.00 pm

how does one initiate the switch after the account is opened?

Not a dumb question at all, @itchyfeet123.  I am in the same position. I want to initiate the switch later this week so, if you have any success, it would be be really helpful to know how you managed it.

Thank you to @colsten for the phone number.

I switched an account with 2 standing orders, but only one of them has gone through. I received a letter from HSBC telling me they had failed to transfer one of the standing orders (or similar wording). I am going to wait a while to see whether I do get the switching bonus automatically or whether I'm going to need to call them and argue my case (I'm anticipating the latter)but just wondered if anyone had any thoughts about this, and whether I do have a case if i don't automatically get the bonus.

Success, thanks to the number @colsten shared above.
It was moderately painful just trying to get through on the phone - gave up after 10 minutes the first time,  got through in maybe 6 minutes on try number 2 - but was very easy once once the call was answered.  At least, it seemed easy on the call; I guess I need to wait until switch day to be sure.

Glad it worked! No idea why the contact info for their switch team isn't online. So here it goes again:

    0345 587 3430, Mo to Fri 08.30 to 18:00

Similar story here today but I did get through quite quickly.

It does seem that you have to phone 0345 587 3430 (Mo to Fri 08.30 to 18:00) if you did not request the switch on account opening.

Is there any need to meet the minimum monthly pay in through this account before the incentive is paid? I'm not fussed if it converts to their Bank Account, but for the incentive to be paid an eligible account has to be held.

Good question.  I had a similar query - what is a month for HSBC's purposes?  I concluded that it didn't matter as the minimum pay in is £10,500 within a 6 month period so it wouldn't matter when I paid in. Can you open the account, switch in, receive the bonus and close the account without paying into it at all?

My thoughts were the same as yours that the 6 month/£10,500 requirement effectively meant no pay-in was required.
