Tar Remover

I wouldn't recommend using WD40 or petrol as some have advised. A proper tar remover such as Tardis or the Carchem product I mentioned won't damage the paintwork but it will strip the LSP, ie, your car wax so you tend to de-tar only when you're going to re-wax your car.Arsenal2019 said:
Does Tardis or wd40 effect the paintwork in anyway?BOWFER said:Tardis is superb
I soak a cloth in it, then wipe the cloth over the panels and let it soak a bit.
As soon as it starts streaking, they come off no problem.
We've 2 x white cars at home, de-tarring is so satisfying.
I have a white car also
i just feel autoglyn is not good enough
Also, use a cloth that you intend to throw away afterward.1 -

Tardis doesn't, but you obviously rinse the car straight after anyway.Arsenal2019 said:

i just feel autoglyn is not good enoughOkay that’s good. Would you say leaving it on, obviously when it’s been wiped whilst I’ve gone around the whole car once with it, probably 5 mins ... and then wash and rinse thoroughly0 -
Ooo okay. That makes sense then I guess. I presume the likes of autoglyn doesn’t remove wax then? Cos I’ve been using that for quite some time. But then again, I’ve not had my car waxed in a long time.neilmcl said:

also, how many weeks/months would you reccomend between each time I De-tar / wax the car?
cheers0 -
Don't do that, just do a panel at a time. Tardis is strong stuff and will get a reaction and start to break down the tar within seconds, no more than 20-30 secs before wiping off with a wet cloth.Arsenal2019 said:BOWFER said:

The way I apply Tardis (running a cloth soaked in in neat Tardis over the panels) it takes more than a few seconds to work.neilmcl said:

It's more like minutes before you see the spots starting to run.
Maybe spraying it on would work faster, but I can't be bothered with that method.
Or my Tardis has lost some of its power over the years I've had the same 5L tin.1 -

I do our white cars 2-3 times a year.
I may never de-tar my black car.1 -
Yes, the quickest and most effective way is to spray on, wait 30 secs or so until the tar starts to dissolve and run then wipe with a wet MF cloth. I've used both Tardis and the other mentioned product and it literally takes seconds to work. Sometimes there may be stubborn bits that may take another pass but generally they are the exceptions.BOWFER said:

Also, one thing the OP should be aware of, is that if he does use a sprayer, make sure it's one that has a spray head that can handle solvents.0 -
Gotcha. Thank you all very much for alll your replies / help!! I guess I’ll be buying Tardis 😉😊0

FWIW I don't wax our white cars, no reward to it means no point IMO.
There are some waxes in the snowfoam and shampoo I use, that's all they get.
So no re-applying wax after Tardis.
Just saying waxing isn't obligatory after Tardis, you're free to leave the car unwaxed.0 -
So if my car is waxed( planning on doing shortly), and I then use Tardis to de-tar my car, which will mainly be at the lower part of the car.... would I then have to use a clay bar to remove the wax from the upper car?BOWFER said:FWIW I don't wax our white cars, no reward to it means no point IMO.

that’s because I would have removed the wax from
the lower car with the Tardis, leaving the upper car’s wax on as I wouldn’t have touched up there with the Tardis
if that makes any sense at all!0
