All you can do is continue to try to get to speak to someone to ask why you've been sent that money and tell them that you weren't expecting that much. A day isn't long to be honest, especially under the current difficult times, they maybe short staffed etc.

ok.
should i tell the benefit office that im looking after this money and its not mine?
a manager or head council person would have had to sign off on sending this amount of money. so i know at least 3 people must have authorised this payment so they cant be that short staffed0 -
Are you willing to say how much money is involved. Means tested benefits are not affected unless your total capital exceeds £6000.Hezy said:ok.

Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -

Oh yikes, more than £60,000? I see your problem! In that case you'll just have to keep chasing - if you know what department it came from, can you send a copy of a bank statement (you can redact everything else if you want) along with a note to show them that yes this amount appears to have gone into your account?Hezy said:im not comfy with this money being anywhere near me to be honest, you could add a 0 to that and still not be there.
The other remote possibility might be a glitch either at their end or on your bank's end; I have no idea what or how but it's not beyond the realms of possibility.
Make sure you keep a note of all the times you've phoned, who you've spoken to, etc. to prove that you've been trying to get the money returned as you genuinely believe it to not be yours.
Edit: what benefits do you claim?0 -
i mean im not going to spend it, or use it in anyway but it is sitting there in my account. and even when it leaves my account, theres a history of it being there. Should i let the benefit office know? will they stop my carer and benefits whilst its there ?

What benefits exactly are you claiming?
