Relatively 'cheap' electricity tomorrow - for me, 14.16p/kWh
Where do you get this early released price?

Calculated from Nordpool's wholesale DA price, which updates at 10:00.

I guess that once the Nordpool data is released at 10am, the Octopus Tracker price can be calculated by gastracker uk faster than Octopus themselves sometimes does it.

FWIW, I calculate it myself, as part of my Tracker spreadsheet.
  • Is this so that you know whether to have the proverbial washing machine on today or tomorrow, as opposed to first thing or last thing today (which would be relevant to Agile)?

No, as I have non-smart meters - It's because a spreadsheet seemed the way to go in order to keep a close eye on Tracker (so that I can see what the worst-case monthly averages are on an ongoing basis, actual running averages, difference in bill costs compared to SVT etc.), so adding in the UR calculation was an easy addition.

Tumble dryer in particular, running that tomorrow instead of today saves 14.84p. In reality for us the overall saving is much more significant that what we can gain by load shifting

Tracker and Agile follow different indexes. The day ahead price is relevant to Tracker, and yes, you'd generally know by about 10:30.
I couldn't hold out on my washing, even though there was more wind generation forecast for tomorrow and I knew there'd likely be an even cheaper price. To make things worse, it's been foggy this morning and still 10 °C / 93% humidity outside right now, so I'm drying by dehumidifier and that will use at least 5x the energy of the wash. The first time I've not been able to line dry since around April. At least the waste heat from that is keeping me warm.
  • Would  you agree that for relatively minor  (hour to hour = Agile or day to day = Tracker) load shifting it probably isn't worth going to the "extremes" that you do?  The largest single power drain I can think of is the electric lawn mower which could run for up to an hour - but in present conditions it would probably just sink. Gut feel is to put my faith in Tracker and hope that the swings compensate for the roundabouts. I also use a "low energy" dehumidifier instead of a non-existent tumble dryer which should save a bomb even if it can't compete with a warm sunny day.
