Right now you have nothing to lose joining Tracker if they'll let you.  If prices go higher than the SVT and you don't fancy gambling that they'll drop quickly enough for your liking you can always go onto the SVT (Flexible).
But if you did that, you wouldn't be able to go back onto Tracker for 9 months, which makes it a slightly more complicated decision than just hopping on and off whenever.

Following the Energy Price Cap prediction, it would be bad to go Fixed for 12 months at the current price cap (rates). I think Tracker or Flexible it's the one way to not overpay (save).
Those figures are predictions from before the events of the last two weeks in the Middle East.

In the words of Donald Rumsfeld:

"......as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know."

And that's the limitation of the CI forecasts.

  • @tlcgrantham. For what it's worth I've been on non-smart-meter Tracker gas since Sept 2022 and the most recent bill is Sept 2023. "Price guaranteed until.  Not applicable" Interpret that as you will ....
Interesting! Does that mean they let you  continue, without a smart meter, onGas tracker when your 1st year finished last month?

... if you have followed Cornwall Insight predictions before you know everything else could be considered absolute rubbish and they will change it multiple times before we get there to make it look like they got it right 👍
This is definitely worth repeating, since far too many people just look at their final prediction (a fortnight or so before Ofgem announce the genuine numbers) and think "wow, CI are really good at this!"

  • On my online account it tells me my v2 gas tariff ends in April 2024. Presumably yours has an end date for September 2024. I’ve requested a smart meter for gas as I intend to remain on tracker indefinitely.
  • That's the point: I can't see any mention of any end date
Intuitively I could see a smart meter being more relevant to electricity than to gas, in my circumstances.

The newest (variable with high cap) versions of Tracker have no end date. Presumably only those grandfathered into legacy versions will have a fixed term and annual renewal.
