@Alnat1. I am on the defence in all this since since switching back to Tracker from Go Faster I have yet to receive a bill. Hence my query whether the (smart) meter monthly start and finish readings are shown on current Tracker invoices
I get period start and finish index readings on my gas Tracker bill.

(This period was short of a month because I received an interim bill on requesting a credit refund.)

I don't get any index readings on my electricity Tracker bill, just daily consumption figures. That's what I'd expect as the monthly index readings aren't used for billing (I can find them if needed in the app). For gas, do they just apply a formula to apportion usage over the month?

I do including when actual daily use has been billed.
  • That would seem to answer my query as far as gas goes tks. What I can't follow is why the system should be any different with electricity if I want to cross check if the consumption figures square with what my meter is showing me. Otherwise the (smart) meter is out of a job!

    Strange, I just get this:
...and so on for each day in the billing period in ascending order of rate.

Then another table with my daily breakdown by date.

We only have electricity, and the smart meter readings are shown in the bill summary.

We have only ever used one index on the smart meter, in case that could be a difference for people not getting the readings on the bills.

This could be it, as my meter used to be E7 and had quite a lot of usage on the 2nd register before changing to single rate (IIRC even Go Faster was being split between registers for a while).
  • That would seem to answer my query if in fact the monthly electricity meter start and finish totals are now shown somewhere in the invoices. Without drowning in the complexities of multiple meters, indicies and registers ..

If I remember correctly you didn't have them when you were previously on Tracker, so chances are you're in the same boat as me.
The reading history is available in the app, if you need it, but I don't see any value in comparing the reading sent to Octopus with the one on your meter display. If you wanted to check the billing integrity, then the best thing to do would be to add up the daily consumption figures and make sure they match the difference in index values.
  • Your memory is better than mine. Worrying
     ...
There is doubtless more than one way. To me comparing the meter readings at the start and end of the month, the difference between them, should be a quick and easy way of checking the monthly consumption totals used in the bill alongside the displayed readings, the source on which these are based. . All the more so if one gets  into stormy waters with missing readings etc. Again, if I don't do this what is the point of having a smart meter?
On further thought I don't see that this is a million miles from what you are saying in your last sentence.

[The other way of looking at it is to think of a situation where for some reason there is a discrepancy, the figures don't add up, and it is a matter of tracing the bug before it gets too involved]

I will be able to argue more convincingly when my Tracker electricity bill arrives.
