My OH who was eligible got less than 48 hours notice of his jab (although he was offered appointments across 2 days) , I was not in the eligible group but got an offer less than 24 hours before I got my jab. We are coming up to 11 weeks now since that first jab and don’t yet have a 2nd jab booked, so assuming they are sticking to 12 weeks or less our second is going to be with virtually no notice at all.
Even with the shortage of vaccine at the moment, we are booking people in well before the 12 week “deadline”. Online bookings have a default of 11 weeks. Personally, if you haven’t heard anything by the 11 week mark, I would think it in order to phone or email your surgery, just to check you haven’t slipped off the radar.

    Thanks I had Pfizer.

One of my colleagues had to make time up after taking her mother to the vaccine centre. Got text 10am for vaccine 2pm the following day  Colleague’s mother is wheelchair bound and hates anyone else taking her bar her family. Colleague had to make up time. As we get paid for our own vaccines, not for others

Do you have similar problems to your colleague about short notice appointments and taking a less-mobile person to an appointment?
Her other appts are given a few weeks notice.
But will it be an issue for you if you have short notice?

I guess if the appointment isn't suitable - you can refuse and let someone else have it

Those who don’t have a mobile phone number attached to their GP records got a letter to ring them to book appt.

Sometimes it’s just easier to stick to the original appt as trying to ring to the GP is difficult as it is. As with those who trying to book vaccine appts, i was 23rd in the queue the other day for contacting GPs for another issue. I was in the queue for an hour. Plus what appts are left, they would probably be more inconvenient

I've just received my text enabling me to book my 2nd dose of AZ, I was offered a date exactly 12 weeks to the day since my first jab- and this time I was given 9 days notice.

I don’t see what the issue is.
you can book a second appt at a vaccination center with many weeks notice if you want.
this is a very important appointment.

whats the issue with making time up?
seems perfectly reasonable and even flexible to me for what is dependent care.

if it’s awkward at short notice then why not book online ahead.
mine is offering it to me 5 weeks ahead at the moment (at the 11 week point).
  • Good morning

Around our way they are phoning a couple or day before the 2nd vaccine/AZ but someone said the same place said it is more difficult to get hold of the pifzer. People are, were able to book ahead online as well.

I've been trying to find recent articles on the web re second dose of AZ and quickly it becomes noticeably effective but can't find anything.

What is the issue here - do you want the jab or not. If you do then give it some priority or reschedule it.......

If your practice uses 11 week gap, like they do at hospitals - your colleague should get his first week in May. You should get yours 2nd week May. You had your first dose a couple of days before me. The way things are going at my GP practice that you get text a day before. If your colleague gets a text 2 days before his 2nd dose then you can be pretty much certain that yours will be more/less the same gap between 1st and 2nd doses as to him.

If you don't hear anything by the Friday 14th (your colleague 7th May) - give your GP practice a call.
