Sadly, Barclays & Barclaycard are two separate companies and your banking behaviour has no effect on Barclaycard saying yes; as a normal bank would.
Are you sure about this? I've had a Google, and I can't find any references to suggest that Barclaycard is anything other than a brand or a trading name of Barclays Bank PLC.
The Barclaycard and Barclays apps also recently merged, and they are now essentially the same app, both giving full access to Barclays and Barlclaycard accounts. I can even pay my Barclaycard directly from the Barclays account within the app.

Yes I'm quite sure! I can also access both on either app, but try asking Barclays to give you a credit card. They've got absolutely no say on it as Barclaycard is a different company; as in they cannot see you Barclays banking data and ditto, banking cannot access your Barclaycard. There's no internal banking score relevant to the card, only loans and overdrafts.

In branch if you speak to an adviser and mention the BC, they'll ring them - they can't answer queries or help.

Not so with normal banks who issue their own cards.

But if you go to barclays.co.uk you can apply for a credt card, which is Barclaycard. Also, if you go to barclaycard.co.uk it says "Barclaycard is a trading name of Barclays Bank UK PLC". Doesn't strike me as different companies.

Not arguing. Holding a Barclays Bank account holds absolutely no weight in obtaining a credit card via Barclaycard. They're treated as separate entities in that respect.

Don't believe me, call Barclays Bank and apply. They'll transfer you to BARCLAYCARD!

The website you mention above links to Barclaycard to apply.

That doesn't make them different companies.

This is the same with almost all banks in my experience. Branch staff cannot deal with credit card queries, and there's usually a separate call centre (often with a separate phone number) for credit cards of most banks (First Direct being an exception).

I'm just curious as to how you're so certain that Barclays is different from other banks?

    Then you've limited experience.

LBG - walk into any branch and you can apply for / open a credit card in person.

    HSBC - as above.

    Metro - as above.

    Santander - as above.

NatWest / RBS - as above.

Barclays - cannot open in branch. Must call Barclaycard or apply online.

So your entire assumption is based on the fact that Barclays don't let you apply for a credit card in a Barclays branch?

I still maintain that bank branches (generally) cannot deal with credit card queries. They may let you apply for a card, but they don't make the lending decision there and then - the application is just sent off to the credit cards department - same as if you'd applied online. Ask for a credit limit increase in a branch and they'll just tell you to phone credit card customer services (or access the same web site you could access from home and do it for you - they have no control).

    Just been to Barclays.
Can’t apply for a credit card in branch and customer data isn’t shared across.
The Barclays card has been incorporated in the Barclays Bank App. However, they are two separate entities under the same name “Barclays”

Yep, I've been saying this all day but some folks (not you) seem to think they know best even though like you, I've actually asked so already knew factually that they'd say this.

Least it's now verified, a second time for others' benefit.
