Just not as crap as Dunroamin or Dunravin; within which you are guaranteed to find two people who have led the most boring lives ever, but don't realise it.
A new development that I know has both a Dunroamin and a Rivendell...but also a Stoneybroke and a Dagobah! :)
  • What’s the current name then?  Let’s see how bad it actually is!

Changing it would probably be more of a pain than just living with it unless it’s truly awful.

We used to drive by a place called Esso View. Opposite a petrol station obviously. It must have sold at some point as we went past a few years later and it was no longer called Esso View.

NOOOOO!!! Don't change the name! It's unlucky to change a house name.
    Really...?

I grew up in a house that had previously had a namechange.
I now live in a house that has previously had a namechange.
Our new next-door-but-one neighbours changed the name of their house when they moved in.

And all of them were improvements over the original names... No bad luck seems to have followed any of them.

It's supposed to be unlucky. I wouldn't do it but then I'm overly superstitious. I always greet single magpies/won't walk under ladders/throw spilt salt over my shoulder (etc, etc), Having said that, if house name was really naff I'd probably get over it quick enough! :D

If you're looking for cheesy house names, have a wander around a canal marina!

Good to see another mention Norfolk. I quite like Norfolk, it’s enchanting.....

    Yes, Norfolk enchants.

Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.
  • House names are so pretentious IMHO. Unless it is in a very mall village with very big, expensive property, it is a no, no.

A sibling of Mr J bought a detached house built in the early 1900's det property and came with a name and number, they removed the name but a much bigger property on their road from 1800's has a name and locals all know it by its name and it is a grand house and that is the type of prperty where a house name is acceptable IMO

Near where we used to live there was a picture book perfect thatched cottage on the edge of a large wood. It was called 'Three Bears'. I just loved that. :)

Another favourite was a narrowboat called 'Dunowen'.

As long as it is not something naff.
If I were to name my house it would be "Ty Fach" which I think is Welsh for "little house".
Was born in Wales but dont speak the language, so apologies to any Welsh speakers. Am based in the Midlands.
Find something that YOU are happy with, after all you have to live with it, not anyone else.
You might want to re-think that.... ;-)
