Is it any wonder people lease/PCP?

I am tempted but can't cope with the knowledge that they would have been the most neglected cars on the planet. The owners won't do anything to look after them. The garages know that nobody wants them servicing. They just want the book stamped. 3 years of complete neglect.motorguy said:
Those cars then become the used stock for those who prefer to buy used (and more likely with a cheap loan and / or cash).BOWFER said:

Thats down to wants again though isnt it?GeordieGeorge said:
It works well for you and i can totally see your point RE: an S-Class or a Rangie, but 99.9% of the people leasing / PCPing a 3 series dont want that. They wont need the extra space, it'll be too big, it'll be harder on fuel, it'll be out of warranty, etc, etc.
My wifes boss does similar to what you do. Gets a year old 7 series every three years from the local BMW main dealer. Paid about £35K for his last one. Suits his Captain of Industry status and costs him likely less in depreciation than a 3 or 1 series of the same price.
As someone said earlier, us leasing our Evoque "could have got us a used Range Rover Sport"
We don't want that level of running expenses, or a car like that out of warranty.0 -

Honestly, give your head a wobble.1 -
There is a certain mentality to people who have a new car every 3 years. They don't care how long the car lasts. They won't drive carefully for the running in period. They won't drive it sympathetically. They won't check the oil and coolant. It's under warranty you see. If you have a 10 year old car and take it to an independent garage you want a service. Someone on a 3 year PCP doesn't give 2 hoots about a service. They just want the book stamped.0

Of course they'll give two hoots about it being serviced. Its under warranty and on finance so they will be obliged to ensure it is, so it will be serviced to manufacturers schedule.fred246 said:There is a certain mentality to people who have a new car every 3 years. Out of curisoty, if all new cars are neglected, how do you buy your cars used? Surely they've all been neglected?

Of course they will take it for a 'service' but they won't be bothered if it is serviced or not. All they want is a 'stamp' or the modern equivalent. The PCPer isn't going to check if anything has actually been done. They aren't interested. It's not important.0

I buy my cars either new or before a garage has messed about with it ie before it's first 'service'.0

You don't half spout a load of rubbish, as previously posted I change my car every three or four years, which incidentally I am lucky enough to be able to pay cash for, the cars are looked after checked regularly and serviced at the correct intervals and when traded in are in the same condition they came out of the showroom when new.fred246 said:There is a certain mentality to people who have a new car every 3 years. I know dozens of people who like me take care and look after their cars whether new or second hand, you appear to have a fixation that only someone like you can be capable of looking after a vehicle.
There also dozens of people like you running old bangers that are not looked after and are dangerous, putting them in for MOT's without any checks or service and wondering why they fail.1 -

They'll be in much better condition than a car looked after by a have-a-go mechanic. They will be under warranty so will get proper repairs, they will be contractually serviced in-dealership so will be dealt with by actual experts. There are guidelines on return which the driver is aware of so they'll be driven carefully. People look after lease cars, because it's too expensive not to.Compare that to a 10 year old car who's owner does the servicing themselves. You're also much more likely to take care of a car worth £30,000 than one worth £300.
We know you have some irrational hatred of mechanics and experts, but do you really need to keep filling this forum with so much drivel?2 -
Someone with a new car on PCP/ lease etc will be bothered about the cosmetic appearance. I am not too bothered about that. Cars get scratches and dings. That's life. I wouldn't want a car driven round with too much or too little oil or no coolant. I would want to know that the oil had actually been changed at the service and for the correct oil to have been used. You can't guarantee these on a used car. For someone on a PCP these are all none of their responsibility. Any problems are someone else's fault and the warranty will fix.,0

why do you keep trying to paint this picture between people being paid to fix someone elses car and those fixing their own car? 'have-a-go mechanics' v 'actual experts'. How do you know experts are working on your car? it could be a 17yr old on work experience. i have had plenty of experience of your 'actual experts' not replacing bolts, on one occasion not replacing a oil cap and breaking/not replacing bleed nipples. i know just about every nut and bolt on my car, am not under any time restraints and definately don't look as myself as a 'have a go mechanic'. this is not a them and us situation, some of us choose or can't afford to suffer depreciation or pay someone £100+ per hour to fix their cars.
