Sony Ericsson W810i - Please Help!

My husband bought me this phone last week for my birthday (it's actually my birthday today but i 'found' it :D). I've nagged him for month for a new mobile. Anyways, i was sending a text yesterday when the whole screen went blank, then flashed white for a second or two. When the main screen came up, i found i had lost all my texts and sent texts. However, i then got an error message saying 'messages full. Delete messages. Delete now - yes no' so i clicked on yes to delete, but there is nothing to delete!

It won't let me send or receive any texts because it says i've too many messages, but i've none on my phone!

I took the phone back Asda last night (where MrY bought it from), only he has thrown the receipt away and Asda won't do anything until we show them the receipt (which will be in the local tip by now). I can't send the phone back to Sony because they also ask for the receipt.

I've tried taking out the sim card but that doesn't work and i've also tried the master reset on the phone, but again it hasn't worked. i've also tried the software update from the Sony Ericsson website, but again it hasn't worked. Pretty please can someone help me?

I needed a new phone because my old one broke and this is the first pressie MrY has bought me for 2 years because my birthday is close to Christmas and I've gone without so the kids can have better christmas pressies (luckily this year i've got a better paying job)! So please, is there anything anyone can suggest? I know i'm begging, but please can someone help me? :)

ETA It's on the T-Mobile network if that's any help!

try a master reset (BUT BEFORE YOU DO, MAKE SURE ANY PICTURES, VIDEOS, SOUNDS ETC THAT YOU WANT TO KEEP ARE ON THE MEMORY CARD, and remove the memory card from the phone to be on the safe side). you can find the master reset option in menu > settings > general tab > master reset > settings reset. if the settings reset doesnt work, try a master reset. you will lose all data if it isnt backed up to the memory card. if it asks for a code enter 0000 (4 0's).

if that doesnt work, i'm afraid you are going to have to do a full reflash

it does sound harder than it is to do a full reflash, but it is easy

Thanks for your reply. What is a full reflash and what does it do?

a full reflash is a software reload and it wipes everything on the phone. its a bit like reinstalling windows after a virus infection etc.

a full reflash takes about 10-15 mins depending on the phone. it should fix the fault (it has for me with different problems on other models). i can guide you through how to do a full reflash. it will also get rid of the t-mobile rubbish (menu icons, sounds, startup/shutdown screens etc) and put the unbranded software on the phone so the phone is how SE intended it to be before networks come along and slap their branding on
  • Thanks, that would be great if you would. I'm frightened of messing my phone up completely though - can reflashing totally stop the phone from working? Also, i'm not very technical minded and my pc is very very old and very very slow - would this be a problem?
  • Did your husband buy the phone with a debit or credit card? If so will you have the statment to show when the purchase was?

    Asda might accept that.

Try calling Sony Ericcson with this number they can usually check a manafacturing date using the phone itself, you normally press a sequence of buttons to get some info on the screen (ie on a Nokia its *#0000#)

    Good luck
  • No - he paid cash unfortunately :(

I'll call Sony Ericsson tonight, thanks for that, hopefully they'll be able to help me - after all, the phone is only a week old! Failing that, i'll have to attempt a reflash.

there isnt a menu on the phone for sony ericssons,

In the spirit of the panto season 'OH YES THERE IS!'

With a SIM card in the phone and the phone turned on enter this key sequence

    Right joystick
    Star
    Left joystick
    Left joystick
    Star
    Left Joystick
    Star

Select service info, then software info and post result

    Best regards

p.s. By the way *#0000# is the AT command to reset some Sony Ericssons - so be careful
