Getsafe Insurance - Anyone have any experience?

Just taken out a new contents policy with a company called Getsafe, found them through go compare but have not heard of them before.

It's all.managed through their app and seems easy enough to use if needed.

Does anyone have any experiences with them?

I was wondering the same thing - Confused.com shows them as my cheapest quote, but know nothing about the company. Has anyone here insured with them?

They're a technology company rather than an insurer operating as a MGA which means the insurer thats actually providing the backing to the product has delegated some authority to them to enter into insurance contracts on their behalf. If they or the insurer will do the claims handling isnt clear from their site.

For a tech company its disappointing that their Contact link doesn't work on their site and there are no policy T&Cs to either see if the insurer is identified or to assess the level of cover. One notable thing they do mention is that Accidental Damage doesn't cover the first 30 days and is limited to two incidents a year... obviously in most cases thats fine but an unlucky year and you could find yourself in a bit more trouble than you would with a traditional policy.

Sometimes you get what you pay for. Care and due diligence on their T+C. Some insurers charge thousands in excess premiums regardless of fault to fund their cheap premiums. Beware

Thanks - I'm a bit wary of how this all digital/tech company model works and as it's home insurance, wouldn't want to make a claim (eg if washer leaks or boiler fails) and then find there's an issue.

Given they only provide contents insurance neither of those are likely to be scenarios that are covered anyway and are more maintenance issues
  • Hi guys, wondering how your insurance with Getsafe has been over the last year now? Just closed off a home insurance with them yesterday and was wondering how they've been for others.

  • I got various quotes this seemed good. The reviews at the time seemed OK.

However, 6 months in I unfortunately have to make a claim. I fill in all the details online. It says they will contact me. A week later they still haven't but I have a lot going on at the moment, I think well I have time off next week I'll get on to them then but at least I notified them at the time.

I then get a email telling me that they have cancelled the policy. because if a CCJ I hadn't told them about. I have no active CCJ on my file just an issue when I moved house and didn't update my address and so I do have satisfied that are 5 years old. So anyway, they're cancelled the policy from DAY 1! I asked how I'd be refunded for the policy. Oh no sorry you won't be refunded as you lied.

Under the CIDRA legislation an act of reckless or intentional non-disclosure allows an insurer to void the policy and retain the premiums paid to date.

Sounds like they are correct and you do have a 5 year old settled CCJ on your record? Most insurers only ask about any CCJ and dont differentiate between unsettled or satisfied.

Ultimately you've got nothing to lose by complaining, the sanction for careless non-disclosure can be less sever but it depends partially on if they would have insured you had you correctly declared the CCJ.

I have been with GetSafe for a while for Contents insurance. I just made a claim on the Home Emergency cover which I paid extra for. (My boiler has stopped working properly). They told me that its not covered as it failed due to wear and tear.

This leaves me trying to think of a Home Emergency that might occur that is not wear and tear? Haven't thought of one yet.

I am going to get my contents insurance elsewhere.

First of all... you did ring the right number as its a different one for Home Emergency?

Secondly... did you read the policy and what it covers? There's a rather long list of exclusions on "main source of heating"! Additionally on their website they state they dont cover boilers in summer months... doesn't explicitly say that in their wording but could be inferred as it requires it to be an "emergency" which means personal risk to your health. Is not having a hot tap a risk to health in summer?
