Hi
Does the estate agent know the telephone number for the new property, and would they pass it on?
Are SKY the only possible provider?
Another check site is here....

Would the BT checker show the capacity of the cab without a telephone number? Or would it, as shown, tell you which cab it falls under and the capabilities at the exchange.

Thanks for the alternative providers but it's my understanding that these would also rely on the bt openworld cabinet space?
I've called my estate agent and they're going to let me know the telephone number from the previous owner, then I can get a more concrete answer from the BT checker.0 -
Bear in mind that even if the BT checker suggests that there is availability, that might not be the case when an ISP is trying to actually set up a service.
It all relies on accurate and up-to-date records and efficient data transfer between OR and the ISP's.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -

I've sent a query to openreach to see if they can give me any advice.
I'll also see if Sky can offer an ADSL connection in the meantime, if not I'll have to get a home 4g service until there's an available space.

I've been given the previous phone number, but also told the sellers transferred it to their new home so when I put it in the BT checker it brings up a different cabinet number0

The evidence suggests Sky are messing you around, yet you seem to want to believe it’s Openreach at fault, TBH , it’s pretty simple to confirm where the issue is, try ordering with another company, if they accept your order without any fuss , then Sky are full of ****, if this other company also state they cannot raise an order because the cabinet is full ( even though the evidence suggests it isn’t ) then Sky may have a point.0

if you are just a light user working from home (as opposed to streaming netflix 24/7) then use your mobile as a hotspot. Three do unlimited data for £20 a month. this will give you breathing space to sort things out.0

Thanks so much for this reply.
I called BT and explained the situation, and they explained that each supplier gets a certain amount of allocated spaces within the green cabinet - so just because Sky has no available spaces that doesn't mean that BT can't provide a connection.
I've placed my order and been given an activation date of the 15th. I'm not going to start celebrating just yet as I'm not connected, but it looks like this is going ahead.
I'm still within my 14 day grace period with Sky so will be cancelling the TV service today.0 -
I’m afraid whoever you spoke to at BT is an idiot , fibre cabinet ports are not pre allocated to ISP’s , all ports are available to all ISP’s on a first come first served basis, if the BT person was able to progress an order for you then there was at least one spare port and the order they raised ‘grabbed’ it for BT,( and you by ordering with BT) , if that port was also available when you called Sky they too could have grabbed the port for themselves ( and you ).
You may be thinking why should I believe what some poster on a forum says, and are willing to accept what the BT person said about a BT port spare but no Sky ports were spare ( even though it is just nonsense ) consider the legality of Openreach doing that.
If what you were told were true, how would Openreach allocate ports fairly, a typical cab may have 288 or 384 ports , there are dozens of company’s that can offer FTTC service but the big three ( BT/TT/Sky) have many more customers than say Zen, but if Zen were penalised by only having 5 or 10 ports when the big three had 100 each that would hardly be fair would it, how could Zen compete when they have so few ports, or if Zen had as many ports as Sky, but only a few customers, then OR could have a cab that was ‘full’ to every provider apart from Zen, effectively turning customer away , unless they by chance that potential customer happened to call Zen....
if you think about it, you should come to the conclusion that you were told utter boll*cks
