I think they're just swamped this year, tbh. I submitted my return at around 8am on the 6th April, and still pending like a lot of others, so it could be just town to luck.1

No documentation at moment.. no didn’t get a compliance letter either.. fed up with hmrc to be honest always something quick enough taking payments yea I did mine on 8th 8pm2

Let’s just hope we wake up one day with it in the bank.. all this drama just builds suspense and makes it more enjoyable when it does go through 😂3

I’m seeing people who have put returns in and had cash back in 8 - 10 days no issues at all... so if it was a back log surely they would of started issuing by now.
I’m 99.9% sure it’s all gone to checks.. hate to be the negative one.0 -

I know it sounds cliché but every case is different, some checks may just be a generic validation process and may only take a week or so.
Then you have the more complex cases that may then bring up other issues that can prompt investigation into tax years further back.
I still have a friend in the offices il send him a message and try to see if there's anything we should be aware or any "inside information" you only have to look on socials to see there's a very long list of disgruntled tax payers.4 -
The selection of returns for checking will be based on a computer programme to select specific cases.
If there have been more returns submitted early and the same amount of staff to work them then there will be a longer delay than usual.
If staff are answering calls they are not working on clearing the returns. So constant calling delays the process.
Only those who haven't had their refund will complain ons social media. All those who have received their refund will be too busy spending it.6 -
