Best broadband provider?

We are with virgin at the moment. I have just found out we have an outdated hub and the signal is very bad. I tried to sort it online but it said I needed to speak to virgin. I tried a couple of times but automated message telling me to call back another time as they were busy. Not sure whether to update it or move to another provider.

"Best" means many things - best price, best customer service, best speed to the router, best wifi coverage etc. Generally, if you move from Virgin to a provider that isn't using FTTP, then you will get lower speeds than Virgin offer, but that's not necessarily an issue, depending on what speeds are available from other providers. Also check what speed you actually get with Virgin, in an area with Virgins hybrid fibre/co-ax, they can suffer from street level congestion and real word performance can be a lot lower than advertised speeds anyway.

Best BB providers probably A&A or Zen .
What is this very bad signal ??  Your broadband connection or your wifi signal .
  • Do not use plusnet under any circumstances. Been left with no internet when switching and no one is interested in helping me. I changed to them because of the good reports but wish I hadn't and will be moving again ASAP

I was with them for 18 months never had an issue, only moved due to finding another provider cheaper, happily go back to them.

I have just left plusnet after 5 years. They were fine after the join up debacle. They gave me 3 months money back because they'd set up the router wrongly and it took them that long to work it out. Now they are raising the price by silly amounts every year so I wouldn't go with them again.

I'm just in the process of changing from TT to Shell Energy. I've been with TT for 15 years and seen them steadily improve in many areas. However, one thing that's never changed is their lack of transparency, U turns on promises and the amount of time you have to put in to get a good deal every year. TT's latest price hike following a promise of no increases has been the straw that broke the camel's back, and to be honest has got me out of an 18 month contract for a cheaper deal.
I suspect in the present climate, like energy providers and car insurance, this will mean a company change every year.

I've just notched up 18 years in a row with Andrews and Arnold and still have no inclination to switch.

Best deals are certainly to be had by rotating providers every year or 18 months.

I've had 5 providers since moving into my current property less than 5 years ago. Two of these have been the same provider - Plusnet - they have been the best of the providers I've used.

Talktalk I tried to join but they messed me around for so long that I gave up so they don't count.

Ironically enough it was BT who left me completely without service (landline or broadband) for a two week period 4 years ago.
