IKEA Kitchen and PayPal part refund request

It's bad planning I'd sayMoney_Grabber13579 said:There are 200 houses in the development which I live in, with all kitchens supplied and fitted by the same supplier (not IKEA). But they are all exactly the same as that - the door hits the extractor fan and I have to perform strange contortions or climb on the bench to access parts of the cupboard. I assumed it was normal, is it not?0 -
That's right. It's a 800 cabinet. Last kitchen was split with 300/500 both opening towards the windows. It's unusable for me as I can't stretch around the door have health issues.born_again said:Looking at your picture. Both doors are opening by the same amount. All our kitchen doors open the same amount.
So the issue is that the cupboard should have not had the doors hung that way. The one touching the extractor should be hung the other way round.
So if that is a 1000 unit, it should have been 2 x 500 with doors hung on the left side as you look at them.0 -
So if I reject the PayPal offer given they've offered a refund and I've had a supportive report could I take them to court for around £1300 for rectifications with a strong chance of positive outcome? I could get a few quotes easily to support the value.
I can't handle the disruption of total removal and reinstallation. I can't deal with problems well much of the time.0 -
A swop to a 500 & 300 units with the doors hung the same side would be a good outcome. Solves the issue with minimal work as the overall size should be the same.skippydonk said:So if I reject the PayPal offer given they've offered a refund and I've had a supportive report could I take them to court for around £1300 for rectifications with a strong chance of positive outcome? You can't insist on this, IKEA are within their rights to request the return of the kitchen for a full refund. However you shouldn't be out of pocket for this so they should also cover any other out of pocket expenses you have. Therefore it seems crazy on their part to take this route given how much more expensive this'll be for them than to fix.skippydonk said:So if I reject the PayPal offer given they've offered a refund and I've had a supportive report could I take them to court for around £1300 for rectifications with a strong chance of positive outcome? However if you're looking at a new integrated fridge freezer I can't see why they'd be expected to cover the extra costs for this, presuming the integrated version is more expensive than the standalone. Personally I'd speak to them and say you don't want to go down the full refund route but if this is the route they insist on you'll need to charge them for other costs too, such as the original installation and removal and let them know how much this'll be. Ask them what other proposals they would suggest and see what they say. They might offer you a bit less than £1300 and you might be happy with this but you'll need to discuss it with them.
If they really do insist on going down the full refund route regardless then carry out your threat and charge them for extras too.1 -
Well the latest offer is in. They've agreed to swap the doors for hatchback style opening on both cabinets either side of the extractor.
They flatly refuse to do anything about the fridge freezer.
If the risks are low on small claims route I think I will try for £1350 which is the cost of a fully installed fridge freezer in a matching cabinet with doors. This is the only thing that will work properly apparently.
The in-store contact has no idea who has been dealing with the PayPal case. The store address for the return is in London.
My bank were worse than useless, even though it was direct debit payment they spent over an hour treating it as a plastic dispute. I told them over and over it was DD. So PayPals advice to involve my bank in a charge back was completely wrong.
I don't know if there's scope under the direct debit guarantee, I know it's not for disputes but I never intended to pay via DD and never had notice etc.0
