Amazon Vent

Without my knowledge or approval, Amazon have put a 2-tier security set-up on my account where they now send a link by text to my phone.
Trouble is that I don't have internet access on my phone so I can't get access to my account to change anything.
I called the helpline specific to log-in problems and after being addressed by the wrong name 5 times after me telkling her my actual name every time, she then asked for my cc number so that she could help get me logged in, I said NO in plain language and hung up on her.
She called me straight back and still addressing me by the wrong name, continued to try to get details from me, I more than kind of lost my temper and put the phone on the desk and left her talking to the empty chair while I went out a walk.

This could be "two step verification" which was enabled by default (without asking) on my account. It can be disabled, I did!
"Disabling Two-Step Verification
Here's how to disable Amazon's Two-Step Verification, a feature that requires you to enter a unique security code in addition to your password on computers and devices that aren't trusted.
To disable Two-Step Verification:
- Go toYour Account and select "Change Account Settings".
- Click "Edit" in the Advanced Security Settings.
- Click "Disable Two-Step Verification" and you will be prompted for the security code.
- Enter the code that was sent to your phone number or generated through the authenticator app and click "Verify code"."

I found 'login and security' but was still not able to turn off the 2-step verification, all it wanted to do was set it up.
I got rid of it by removing my phone number then logging out and back in again but not putting in my mobile number when asked.
Sad that they think everyone has a phone that you can click a link with.
Some of us still live in the dark ages.0 -
Although I assume (but may be wrong) that if someone hacked your Amazon account and made a few purchases then you would expect Amazon to refund the money to you?0

"Wherever those instructions are from"Amazon.co.uk. Whether good or not.

I'll add a little amazon vent, if I may?
I order cat food from them delivered every two weeks. If they weren't £16 a month cheaper than elsewhere, I would use other suppliers as there are frequent problems.
This delivery got to my local depot and then sat there - for so long they've declared it 'lost' and offered me a refund. I click the button that says refund on the order page and it says that I can request a refund on Friday January 10th. The next time that particular date occurs in 2031.
It took a (granted, friendly and helpful) customer service rep over ten minutes to process the refund as she had to do each individual flavour of cat food separately.
My cats are currently climbing the curtains angrily as they're being forced to eat their second favourite food brand and a few cans of human tuna. It's a real first world problem, granted, but it's still quite annoying!0 -
Whenever I've logged into Amazon and the system has wanted to use the 2 step process, I always get a message sent to my phone and an e-mail to my registered email address so even if I don't have access to my phone or it doesn't have internet access, I can still get onto my account by clicking the link on the email.
