duncanthedog said:Without my knowledge or approval, Amazon have put a 2-tier security set-up on my account where they now send a link by text to my phone.
Trouble is that I don't have internet access on my phone so I can't get access to my account to change anything.
I called the helpline specific to log-in problems and after being addressed by the wrong name 5 times after me telkling her my actual name every time, she then asked for my cc number so that she could help get me logged in, I said NO in plain language and hung up on her.
She called me straight back and still addressing me by the wrong name, continued to try to get details from me, I more than kind of lost my temper and put the phone on the desk and left her talking to the empty chair while I went out a walk.
Are you sure the link isn't a scam text because I've never got a link send to me from Amazon?
But if you wanted to open it then you simply look at the link on your phone and then type it into a web browser on a device you have internet access on to go to it. I don't know why your getting so angry about all this.3 -

I am angry about all this because the forced it on me, I did not approve the measure.0 -

I'm not sure it's something that will happen every time, I've had it with gmail on occasion too, though it's just a code you need to enter. As you suggest, all duncanthedog needs to do is copy that link into the web browser and that will verify it and complete the log-in process.0 -

Then remove it, should be possible to disable it.0 -

I have been locked out of my Amazon Account since the 13th April, when I tried to Login they sent a two step verification Link to my mobile, but I am unable to 'tap on it' as it is a basic model, not an internet connected model.
I have tried every link provided on their Customer Service Page, including one that is supposed to send me to a Recovery page, but they all send me straight back to the Login page. I have tried several phone numbers, been directed to a different one, and kept on hold over 30 minutes and no one ever answers.
This morning I found a complaints address for them, sent an email only to receive a reply stating they are 'Not currently accepting emails.' Every link provided in the email returns me to the Login page.
I don't know what else iI can do.
Just a day or two before being locked out I had ordered a Samsung Freezer, which has been delivered, but Insurance documents covering the freezer were supposed to arrive by email within 72 hours, they have NOT arrived.
It appears Amazon are deliberately avoiding dealing with problems and complaints, and using Covid-19 as an excuse. Their Customer Service stinks.1 -

Like i said above simply look at the link on your mobile and type it in exactly as you see it into a web browser on the device your using to post this and job done!0 -
I HAVE tried that also, several times over the last few days, and this is what I get:
- Your Account
- ›
- Login & security
- ›
- Two-Step Verification (2SV) Settings
We're sorry!
An error occurred when we tried to process your request. Rest assured, we're already working on the problem and expect to resolve it shortly.
Continue shopping
That last comment 'Continue shopping' really annoyed me, so I thought, maybe I should try that. I did, so I ordered a book, clicked on basket , it sent me straight back to Login, and the two step verification again. Grrr.
If anyone up there has half a brain cell, maybe, just MAYBE, someone will think to send me an email I can reply to, asking why I didn't finish the transaction. But I won't be holding my breath.0 -
Whilst I know some people find it difficult or a pain that its been done without their consent I, for one, am glad for any added security. Considering all the attempts at scamming we get each day I'm glad firms are making an effort. Each to their own I suppose.
I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.1 -
Why not use Authy, or Google Authenticator instead, to keep your Amazon 2FA and make your account more secure?
