Only when we moved in and just last week when we changed supplier due to the huge bill.
    ............
That explains it in part as you will have been on the existing standard (ie expensive) tariff until you switched over what has been a cold winter.

What consumption figures have you given your new supplier ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Nope. Don't miss teenagers at all :#

It’s got nothing to do with the tariff, I’ve been monitoring the consumption. It’s almost triple.

simplest way to solve this is take daily meter readings, experiment with using different things.
or get an energy monitor, the type that just clips onto the meter tails and tells you how much you are using at any one time. these cost about £20. sit that on the worktop and look at it over a period of 2 weeks or so and you will start to notice any patterns.
for example, if you see spikes in usage when all members of the household are sat in the living room watching tv and nothing else is on at the time apart from the fridge/freezer, then start looking into the possibility that either the meter is faulty, you have a fault somewhere(unlikely) or someone is stealing your electric (also unlikely)

That's what I wanted to suggest.

  • I'm glad you posted OP - inspired me to check and my dual fuel bill seems to have jumped from less than £50 Jan-Feb to a whopping £170 Feb-March  :open_mouth:

    UPDATE

It was the underfloor heating...hangs head in shame. Apologies to everyone who indicated this.
I turned it off and watched the smart reader fall off to basically nothing.
I’m happy I’ve found out what it is but I’m not sure where to go from here. The room obviously isn’t insulated.
    Thanks for the tips everyone!

I didn't say anything but it was always going to be the obvious culprit.   A room will always require the same amount of energy to be heated, whether it's via gas or electric.

If you look at the price of a kWh of both gas and electricity on your tariff, you might find that  electricity is six times the price of gas!   That's a real luxury for a utility room.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I'm interested to know why you needed underfloor heating in a utility room.
Its not a room to hang around in.
A radiator with the door shut would help dry clothes.
