Shell Energy Broadband

I stupidly signed up to shell energy broadband having found them recommended on this site and since go live I have had terrible WIFI. I am now in a battle with them about this and feel completely trapped. They are saying to cancel the contract I will incur early termination charges in excess of £300 meanwhile I have a unstable wifi service.
Has anyone else been in this position and what did you do to get out of it. I’m desperate for some help please.

I am also unimpressed with Shell for a different reason. MSE promoted their latest brodband offer at 17.99 per month with payment holiday. They failed to mention the 20% Vat added making it 21.54 per month. I could have stayed at Plusnet for less.
Never seen the vat added on the end before. Ifeel cheated by MSE and Shell. So noww I'm locked in for 12 months. Thanks!!!!!1 -
These are somehow a COVID-related kindness - please explain?7

Sorry to hear that you’ve also had a bad experience. Shell definitely seem to be all about making money by being sneaky. They’ve said to me to stabilise my wifi I have to UPGRADE to a higher service and pay more, even though when I was with my previous broadband provider I had half the broadband speed and a good WIFI. Unlike you I’m tied into 18 months, I wish it were only 12.shenderson99 said:I am also unimpressed with Shell for a different reason. Are you aware that they will charge £15 when you want to leave them, even if your contract has ended? ☹️0 -

Most broadband providers include a wi-fi router as part of the package. The quality of the routers supplied is often quite poor, particularly those from the budget providers. I had my onestream router through the other day, signal drops off very rapidly as soon as you leave the room the router is in. Some brief investigation revealed they have branded a Technicolor TG588V-V2, which is a cheapo five-year-old model, lots of complaints about it online, including from Shell customers so looks like they may use the same.JJ_Egan said:The title of this section .Ps wifi is not part of your broadband contract .Poor wifi is usually users setup .
If you have a decent router from a previous supplier you may be able to configure it to work with your new supplier, otherwise you might need to fork out for a decent router or range extender. These can be had for well under £100.0 -
If OP has a second router lying around, they should be able to configure this to act as a wireless range extender which has the added advantage of being free.tripled said:

Youtube will be a much better explainer of how to do this than I will when explaining in written form.💙💛 💔1 -
Don't pay. They cannot force you to do anything, especially if they do not provide an adequate service and are unwilling/unable to fix it.0

We've moved this to the Broadband board.
