Since using it for calls doesn't feature on your list, would it not be better to think outside the box and get him an Android tablet instead, which can still be set up with WhatsApp? Bigger screen, bigger buttons, can be rested on a knee or a tray....No free lunch, and no free laptop2

Google assistant can do many functions via voice commands , "hey Google , call Dave mobile " etc . Can also be used to take pictures , make notes and almost anything elseEx forum ambassador
