Previous Green Network customer. just got EDF tarriff

I'm a previous Green Network Energy customer who has now been moved over to EDF.
My previous GNE tariff was:  (All prices including VAT) Gas unit rate: 2.32 Standing charge: 22.18  Electricity Unit rate: 13.88 Standing charge: 23.18
We were led to believe (including info given to MSE energy saving club) that the new EDF tariff would be:
(All prices including VAT) Gas Unit rate: 2.312 Standing charge: 18.060   Electricity Unit rate:13.850 Standing charge: 23.184

I have just received communication from EDF which gives my actual tariff as:
(All prices including VAT) Gas unit rate: 2.470 Standing charge: 22.95   Electricity Unit rate: 14.80 Standing charge: 27.13

As you can see all the new charges are higher!

We have statements from EDF that are:
.....we guarantee all customers will see a price decrease versus their current tariff until at least 30 September 2021^
and
^ We’ll calculate your bill value from the date we were appointed up to 30 September 2021 and if there is no decrease we will apply a credit to your account accordingly.

but what does that actually mean???
And how can they say that I would see a price decrease when that clearly isn't the case???

  • I'm interested to see that they have at least been in touch.  I am still waiting to hear from them re my switchover from GNE - even though GNE just taken another DD payment from me.  We are told to wait - but it's taking a long time for them to sort it.

Yep I've been anxious to hear too. I got an email 4 days ago to set up the online account. Then I got 4 blank emails! and today I have the welcoming letters (one for gas and one for Electricity) which once logging onto the online account I have the tariff info.
There isn't anything yet to do with opening balances or previous credit - so still waiting to hear on that bit, but I am one step forward.
I agree that it's all taking a long time, and to be honest I'm finding it frustrating, to be left in the dark with no info, but as I said I am now one step forward, but am not impressed, that we were told that our tariff would be cheaper, and now I find that it isn't!

  • After looking into various tariffs. I realise that EDF have put me on a cash/cheque tariff rather than the Direct Debit tariff, which then explains the difference in the rates.
I have emailed EDF and await their response.

Also info for others - You can't use the WhatsApp chat function with EDF if you are a previous GNE customer as you get
    1st msg:
'As a former Green Network Energy customer there's no need to worry. Your energy supply will continue uninterrupted and we are delighted to welcome you to EDF.
There is no need to contact us at this time.'
    2nd Msg:
'The transfer of your account to us is under way and we aim to provide a further update by the end of March to our residential customers.
Once Green Network Energy provide your details to us, we'll send out your welcome pack with all the information you need in it.'
    3rd Msg:
Currently our agents do not have access to your account information until we receive details from Green Network Energy. Therefore they can only help with dangerous or emergency situations.'

    So WhatsApp chat functionally useless!

They're doing the same to me. Lots of emails from edf say it's all automatic and then the next one says I've cancelled my direct debit and my tarrif is going up   I've complained but they're fobbing me off currently. I can see the DD has changed to edf on my bank account but they've not collected anything. Can't tell if it's just incompetence or deliberate to put up the prices.

    @Tonycv51

Have you actually got details of which Welcome tariff you're going to be put on and how does that compare with GNE.?  The DD may well have to change if you were in debt .

I'm still waiting for any detail from Edf - hanging my hat on the promise that I won't pay more.

I have yet to hear from EDF.  DDs are still being taken.  Fair enough you might think.  However, and I would like MSE to investigate this, on going into the GNE account I notice that my standing charges have increased such that I would pay £113 extra per year for these charges which have never been notified to me and would backdate to last November.  It is easy to do the comparison as we still have previous bills.  This is surely illegal or at least along the lines of mis-selling. I will contact OFGEM but they never actually do anything for individual customers.  This is where we need the power of MSE.

Like others I’ve not heard anything from EDF about my new account that was transferred from Green Network- until today when they attempted to take £795+ from my bank account!!!
No communication, no warning - nothing. Where do I stand? Bank returned direct debit so presumably will charge me, can’t get through to EDF. (Direct debits have continued to be taken by GNE so not in debt to them / EDF)

Wise words of wisdom much appreciated

I've now set up my EDF account, and yes the tariff are way more than GNE tariffs.

It has been explained to me that due to GNE ddm details not being transferred to EDF, my initial new rates are based upon cash/cheque (quarterly) billing but that these will change when I input ddm details with EDF.

This option is likely available to me within 2 weeks from today. Any excess billing over my GNE rates would be sorted 30 September. Seems I'll need to stay with EDF until 30 September to find out, their price guarantee and MSE's comments re the 'cheap' rates is comforting
