    That's crappy looking workmanship!
And yes, is probably the cause of your cracking, but it's (probably) not subsidence. Far more likely to be caused by vibration and ground disturbance. Your house looks to be pretty old, and that metal plate says it's had to be tied in the past,so is more likely to be prone to cracking.
    Call your insurance company.

That looks more like a soot hatch than a tie plate to my untrained eye.

You need to urgently engage building control at your council, get round there pronoto. Also if you have legal cover then speak with them. Need more pics of inside and outside.
Should I contact the neighbour with the extension first?

Incredibly unprofessional work, it is possible someone who works to those standards has caused further problems. Was it a builder or is this a diy job?
Its not clear where the damage is in relation to the new extension. Has the new extension been tied to the rear wall and is now pulling it outwards?
  • And I thought Mr O'Reilly had retired...

Basil?! Where are you going with that gnome...?

Starfluf, it's hard to relate the inside and outside photos - any chance of wider shots to show where that damaged window frame is in relation to the extension, for example?

Regardless, however, you need to call Build Control right away and express your concerns about the standard of work, and the possibility that it's also caused damage to your home. That is a dreadful job, so bad that it cannot possibly have been 'passed', and I suspect that means that BC has not even been applied for at all. So lawd knows what the founds, for example, are like.

The BCO will - once they've recovered from the shock - also want to check the inside of your house, and so should be able to figure out PDQ if there's a connection.

    Then it's insurance time...

    Lawdie.

I've no idea it was my neighbour's builder. The damage in on the same wall - window is top left their extension is bottom right if that makes sense? I'll see if I can sort of draw a diagram
