April 2021 Grocery Challenge

Have done a big shop this morning which actually covers a lot of May's food but there was enough left in the budget to do the shopping today a few days before we actually get paid. I will probably need to get some fresh bits at the end of the week but still have £76.14 left of April's budget. I also spent some of the Bulk fund on 12l of UHT milk; XL pack of pork chops (enough for 4 meals for 2 of us).

Hello,I’m declaring for April at £194.01/£200 so very pleased. Considering reducing May by £10 and it is a shorter month payday wise as we get paid last working day of the month. I’m going to study my receipts and mull it over 🤔

Good evening All
I have another spend to declare. I had to work on Sunday, so DH wandered down to the C0-0p on his own to buy the paper (paid via a subscription voucher.). Since this week will be taxing for both of us, work-wise, he also bought one of their large steak pies, cashing in our C0-0p points so that the pie only cost us 70p.
The above brings our total spend for April to £138.60/£140, leaving £1.40 for the rest of the month. Only 3 days to go but I won’t declare just yet, in case something comes up.

I gave in to the siren lure of the supermarket this morning only to find myself wandering round not wanting to purchase anything, I even looked at several y/s bargains and didn't want to give them fridge room so can only assume that my current bout of insomnia comes with money-saving side effects.
Naturally I'm now wondering if I can derive a new and lucrative career from this, but am also finding that being so tired means that I can't concentrate for long enough to make any decisions!
Anyway I did finally manage to follow my list to purchase organic milk, bread, live f/f yoghurt, gherkins, mango and mangetout salad and a seeded roll which all came to £9.45 making my total £76.32/£120 and an average daily spend of £2.93.

the budget is blown!!
not by too much, but as expected i did go over (only 2 days to payday so hopefully no more)
£570.74/£550
That's 2 high months in a row and now my mum is staying with us for a couple of weeks. My OH hasn't been as strict with his workoputs lately so I have been able to swap in some non-meat protein in the form of beans etc. Will do that as much as possible but still need to keep his meat consumption pretty high and will struggle to feed my mum cheaply.
She doesn't like curries which are my go to cheaper & easier meal, she doesn't do middle eastern or african flavours, she doesn't do vegetarian etc. all the cuisines that I actually cook alot
The lack of snacks and alcohol was definitly making a difference as having had a couple of weekends socialising I'm seeing the difference in my grocery spend - i will take the socialising though!!
I also went to Lidl without a list on Friday as i needed to use my £10 voucher, but did mean i ended spending a fair bit in Tesco locally yesterday.
