Sofa won't fit

We ordered a sofa online from SCS last year, that they have tried to deliver this morning. The guys turned up, took one look and said there is no way it will fit through the door, they didn't even get it off the van. We have a porch - the door is a standard size 33x78 inch, a 90 degree turn and then straight in. The ceiling height in the porch is not much more than the door height, and they said this was the issue as they couldn't stand the sofa straight up to get it in.
We have a 3 seater already in the house which I moved in with a friend when bought the house 4 years ago - I honestly can't remember how we got it in, but don't seem to remember any big dramas
One of the drivers suggested taking the double glazing unit out of the front window - one though it would fit that way but then his mate said he still thinks we'd struggle and didn't think it would fit. There is no other access to the house
I have called SCS and they have suggested we book an upholster to come and dismantle the sofa & then re-install it, they will arrange another delivery day to match, This would cost £120 extra - not keen on this option at all
Just want to know what my rights are?
There is a warning on the website that says its my responsibility to check access - this mentions door width and stairs but not ceiling height. I didn't consider this
It is also on interest free credit, which says the first payment will be collected after delivery - well it hasn't been delivered yet.
It was only a relatively cheap sofa (£400 + £69 delivery). I paid the £69 on a debit card
Can I just lose the £69 but not start the credit payments - they are unable to deliver the sofa to me? Or am I liable for the whole amount?
I would be happy to walk away and lose the £69, but don't really want to be paying for 2 years for a sofa I don't have

They are able to deliver as far as the front door .Will SCS allow you to swap this item ?0
-
Haven't asked if they will swap but when I spoke to them on the phone they did say it was non-cancellable as it was bespoke - not really sure about that, we picked a sofa online & then selected the colour
The sofa didn't get as far as the front door - it stayed on the van and then they drove it away
Suppose this might be an expensive lesson but it will really irk me if I paying for something for 2 years which I don't have and have never had. Especially if they then re-sell it to somebody else0 -
No backdoor access through a garden?
I would try asking them if they will exchange it for something else. It was 100% your responsibility to check it would fit. They do say on the website if they come apart (or not).
Your only other option is to ask if they can sell it to someone else and then get a refund less storage and admin costs when it sells (could take ages), or see if you find another buyer and have it delivered to them instead?!?!?Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
No access to the back garden. Think I am going to have to chalk it up to experience. Just thought I may have been able to avoid paying the finance as technically it hasn't been delivered0

Surely, if the OP ordered wholly online (and without having visited a store), and the options they chose from were from those presented online (e.g. as selection boxes or drop-downs), then the item is not bespoke. As such, the usual return rights as per the CRA would exist.1

Everything was done online & then they phoned to complete the credit app. - didn't go to a store due to lockdown. Drop down menus of colour & colour of feet.
What are the CRA rights?0 -
i would be amazed if the company did not get this problem regularly !"Ask them what they can do for you as goodwill. if nothing then surely it is better to pay £120 than lose the sofa? yoy are most likely going to have to pay the credit payments0

Could you ask a local glazier to take out your front window?0

Problem with that is one of the drivers thought it would fit and the other still didn't think it would get through. They said it was the size/angle of the back that was the issue - not sure because I've only seen pictures online but it doesn't seem excessive.
I have just had an email confirming they have delivered the sofa successfully and asked me to leave a trust pilot review. I assume this is an error but will call them and see what other options are available to me. Think I will just walk away from it, not up to dealing with this0 -
