What would you do with this garden?

Probably a silly post but we’re looking at potentially selling in the next year or so and the garden has always been an issue for me.

We bought the property 4 years ago and have now complete the bungalow renovation, front garden and driveway, so now the rear garden is the target.

We’re very fortunate to have a large garden that’s not overlooked (bungalows either side and a fairway behind).

Should we do anything to it? I’d love to do some landscaping but where to start is beyond me to be honest.
the first picture is of the garden when we moved in, the second is post rear extension ( this covered the concreted area).

it does get very waterlogged (clay under the top soil) during the winter so was think of a french drain as well.

Thanks in advanced

  • I agree, that looks good already. I wouldn’t change it.

I actually love it as it is, what sort of budget are you thinking of spending, you may find you don’t recoup that when you come to sell next year. You may find that viewers like it as it is too as they can then adapt it to suit their needs and put their own mark on it.
    Excellent question, well put!

I think up to about £7k but I will be doing all the labouring so that will be for materials. I quite fancy making my own rectangular gazebo to go on the left hand side (garden is north facing).

Well I’m sure you’ll do a great job then as looks like you’ve already tamed it, a gazebo would be a great addition and hope you enjoy using this before you sell.
  • A summer house placed beyond the trees perhaps? Proabably cost a couple of K all in. Otherwise leave as is.

Looks like you have done a good job on it so far. Are you looking to change it for you own benefit? or purely to try and add value for when you come to sell?

Personally i would keep it as it is. It ticks the boxes for family's wanting an easy to maintain space where the kids can play and keen gardeners could also see the potential for what they would want to do with it (which might not necessarily be what you would do with it)
I think for our benefit to start with but then potentially moving it on. I just sometimes look at it and think it’s so boring but, to be honest, cutting the grass weekly and hedges twice a year is very pleasant!

  • I would love to buy a house with a garden like this so I would do very little to it. The only thing I would try to include would be maybe a bit of colour but to be honest I think most buyers would be pleased with it as it is now.
