So three journeys - you, husband and daughter but only one car at present.
With a courtesy car that would only cover two journeys so there would still be a problem.0 -
Most Warranties specifically exclude a loan car while any work is undertaken. If a dealer decides to provide one, that is down to them. At the moment most of the cars that would have been avaiable are otherwise engaged due to staff working from home.Life in the slow lane1

How many cars the OP has or needs is irrelevant. I'm sure if OP could work with one then they wouldn't be too worried about a courtesy car.1 -

Can you get a hire car through your insurance0

Surely these rare occasions are where taxis are useful? Could none of those trips have been done by taxi, as a one-off?

Courtesy cars are only offered by some garages and will be on an availability-only basis, unless you're prepared to pay for some sort of insurance that provides for one if/when your car needs work. Taxis might seem pricey at £10 for 3.5miles but if it's cheaper and more convenient than a short term hire, it's a good deal. The alternative is to sign up to a car club type scheme if there's one locally.
On a broader note, we all need to wean ourselves off multiple car ownership if we want less congestion, better air quality, fewer cars littered on roads, verges, pavements, etc. I know many households with two or three cars when they could cope perfectly well with one or two cars respectively with a bit of organisation, the occasional use of public transport or a shared car and just being a bit more sensible about trips, my own household included.
