PCP 2 years in car faulty

I bought a new VW sept 2018.  End of 2020 car developed vibration when idling .  Dealer couldn't find fault after 2 days so said to try it again and come back if if persists.  Well it did and got worse.  So booked it back in and tomorrow will be 5th day of investigation and no sign of it coming back.  No courtesy car provided because of covid but it's a huge inconvenience as we now share a car as my husband disabled and we've both retired so no need for 2 cars anymore.
I have to keep borrowing my daughters car but we have a clash next week with myself needing to be at appointment locally, my hubby further afield and my daughter using her car.  While I could get a taxi it would cost my husband a lot.  I do feel I should have a courtesy car.  Who should I press for one ?  Finance company or dealer ?

Well it's not really a consumer rights question, more of a consumer courtesy issue. There is no right in statute to a car. Could you not hire a car for a few days if it is that difficult to be without one?

Duplicate post in the Motoring section.

On the one hand she says that they have no need for 2 cars anymore due to being retired but then says this is a "huge inconvenience" not having a courtesy car. Also being in lockdown and having to stay at home why do 2 retired people need to be going out in their separate cars that much to be causing such a significant inconvenience.

We need to go out separately sometimes for medical appointments.  As I said my husband is disabled and not all his appointments have been telephone calls and he's under care of specialist unit 40 miles away!  I also provide care for another disabled person that requires me to drive .  Since we've gone down to one car we've only done 17k mikes in 2.5 years due to lockdown as no jolly's just practicalities!
We've been without a vehicle now for 7 days and today told they doing something to gearbox so need car over weekend !  Being carless wasn't factored in when we decided to go down to one car.  We went from 2 cars & 2 motorbikes to one car and thought there might be odd days we'd need to hire if we both had need for car that public transport not an option but not for extended period.  The dealer can replicate fault but cannot find cause so this could be long process!
I'm also due to as hoc work on election postal votes in next few weeks and I'm thinking at this rate I will still be carless !
Just because we are retired we are not senile!  We are both under 60 but my husband had serious accident where he broke his neck & back and I have caring responsibilities so I took early retirement as I was very stressed as I hadn't long finished treatment for breast cancer and was being pulled in all directions.   The idea to buy our first ever brand new car was to have reliability as well as having a car more accessible for my hubby !

I thought as a pcp that the finance company owned car not me !  A few days not a problem but from the way the dealer talking they'll have it all next week too !  Meanwhile I'm paying finance company for a car I can't use !

Nobody has come anywhere near to making such a suggestion!

To be fair you posts here, and in the motoring section, was totally unclear as to just how many cars you own or currently have access to. If the VW is your sole car then fair enough, but you should be more clear about it.

Now moving on, the law, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, requires any remedy to be provided within a reasonable timeframe and without causing a significant inconvenience. You would need to demonstrate this to the dealer and finance company if you want them to provide a replacement vehicle. Now that they've diagnosed the fault and currently working on it I'd guess it won't actually be that long before you get your car back anyway.

Post re being retired suggested we should be tucked up in front of fire not flouting covid rules!
No they haven't diagnosed fault he said they try one thing, rule it out and try something else.  The gearbox is next thing they looking at to see if a dampener (?) is causing problem .  Every day they ring me to say they tried x part no fault so trying something else.  I believe to date fuel lines been checked, loose parts looked for , software update, engine timing reset, battery replaced , put into some mode that required it to be completely idle afterwards for 6 hours .  They also suggested we use the higher grade unleaded petrol instead of bog standard!  We never buy supermarket petrol but use our local shell as my hubby has a bee in his bonnet that supermarket petrol not as good !

No, it simply suggested that you wouldn't be out every day for work purposes. I'm not retired but I'm using my car only once a week at the moment, and I'm sure I could get by without it entirely for longer if necessary.

It was an important point to make because, as mentioned, you will need to demonstrate that not having a car would cause a "significant" inconvenience, and in the present times I'm not sure that is the case for a lot of people, retired or otherwise. Plus my assertion was based on the idea that you had another car at home, which your original thread in the motoring section suggested.

Downside she's rural (I'm in Wales ) will take me 3 buses !  I'm so excited at getting my hair done I'll hire myself a car not to be grey !!!!  Worth the £35 days hire !!!

Kind of goes against the "stay local" message though 😁

Not far over 5 miles and nearest eco /vegan salon who uses cruelty free , vegan, nasty-chemical free dye etc!  After having treatment for cancer I've tried to eliminate possible harmful chemicals.  It's over 3 months since I've had my hair done !  I normally go monthly so saved a fortune but I look a mess !  Thank god we wear masks and people struggle to recognise me !!!!
Blooming stay local causes me more issues though than stay home.  Stay home I could click & collect from any store with stock !  Stay local I can only collect local store . !  My daughter renovating her house and so much stuff not available for delivery and no local collection!  Last stay local we asked if they could transfer stock to local store but no!!
