Did you visit your puppy and see the parents/do the necessary checks before buying it, or was it the hours conversation and was that it?
Because if so, that does go against all the guidance on trying to avoid puppy farmers. I'm glad your pup has ended up with someone who is both willing and able to try to get things put right, but this is exactly the reason why you need to be carrying out due diligence beforehand.

The last of your pup's litter mates must be getting quite old now, since you've had yours for over two months already yet they are still being advertised. It'd be interesting to know what the hold up is with the sellers. And why the not quite as young as they were pups are still being advertised as KC registered when that's not even a possibility, given what you've said about the parents.
Definitely plenty to report here - and it won't cost you any court fees either.0 -

We bought a beautiful labradoodle puppy in July 2020. I spoke with the owner of the mother for over an hour on the phone and I was really confident that all would be well so I went ahead and purchased the puppy. We were sent KC papers for the dad but, despite asking, we didn't get any history on the mother and this is where I want everyone who is reading this to take note. Make sure you get information about both parents and enter into a contract. I didn't do this and now I wish I had.
I wanted the puppy because I was due to retire from the NHS (after 23 years service) and wanted to get fit and healthy. I also run a counselling business so wanted a "therapy dog" to help clients when we were out walking. What a terrible heartache we have had since purchase. In October 2020 we noticed that the puppy was limping after his walk. We brought him to the vet who confirmed via x-rays that our beautiful puppy had double hip dysplasia and so we were left with a dilemma; do we leave it as it is and see him suffer, do we do the cheapest option, knowing that he will be in pain in the next couple of years or do we go for a full total hip replacement and spend £15,000. We contacted Langford Veterinary Hospital in Bristol for advice and chose to pay for total hip replacements to give the poor puppy the best chance in life. My pet insurance covered me to £7,000 and so I used up part of my lump sum pension (£7,000) to pay for the second hip. Langford were truly amazing and I cannot thank them enough for all they did. Unfortunately we now know that our lovely puppy (10 months old now) has also problems with his front paws. Even more expense lies ahead. Thankfully I took out good pet insurance so the next traumatic tranche for this poor puppy will be paid for. Our puppy was 8 months old when he had the first surgery He had to be caged for 6 weeks (no walking at all) and then another 6 weeks cage rest for the second hip (no walking again). He has been given the all clear as hips have been successful but we now have to build him up to walking from 5 minutes 3 times per day to 30 minutes after 6 weeks and then a further 2 weeks before he can jump and run. He is only 10 months old. He has had so many drugs that I am surprised he is not a "junkie dog". I am writing this because I want to alert all animal lovers who are thinking about buying a puppy. It's such a wonderful thing to do and an experience that will enrich your life, but please, please, please, do your homework. I didn't. I bought my puppy in good faith and trusted others (because I am a trustworthy person so expected everyone else to be the same). I am so lucky that I had the money to pay for his hips. I paid £2,000 for the puppy and to date he has cost me over £16,000. Please read this all the way through because I never want anyone to go through what we went through with our first ever beautiful puppy. I am sure he doesn't know but he was lucky that he landed with us because I am not sure if any of my friends would have the money to pay out this amount. I contacted the breeders to let them know but they sent me a load of flannel and didn't even sympathies. I was heartbroken. I was threatened with "we know where you live" so I disengaged straight away. Having said all this, we absolutely love our puppy and every penny was worth seeing him healthy and happy and he brings the whole family joy. Had it not been for Langfords and their exceptional surgeon and the fact that I could afford to pay for the hips then I don't know where we would be. The law needs to be changed so that unscrupulous "money grabbing" breeders need to be held to account. Do your homework and don't be swayed by your heart like I was.0 -
Thank you for sharing this. There have been a few posts recently from people buying dogs on facebook etc from dodgy sellers so any warning are appreciated.
What I'm unsure of is what you think can be done in law to stop this?0 -

Unfortunately, you are not the first and won't be the last to get caught in this way.
It is not as if it has not been highlighted in the papers, on tv etc.
Both labradors and poodles are prone to hip dysplasia so combining those breeds does not reduce the possibility of pups inheriting it.
But , when people get sucked in to puppies it seems all the advice goes out the window.
IT IS a hard lesson to learn but I am glad you were able to give your pup the necessary treatment.and hope you can enjoy him for many years to come.

Have people considered that even if you see the "parents", there is no guarantee they are the parents?
It's a technique we've seen by a few puppy farmers here, along with setting up fake homes/families.
Personally, I would ask that people don't "buy" a dog at all, not when there are so many every day being put down because they're considered unwanted surplus. Rescues normally have them vet checked and vaccinated. Many will also assess them (to see how they are with other animals, kids etc) where possible and may even try to offer dogs based on those they think would fit best with your lifestyle/family (ie if you only want a 5 min walk then a spaniel or retriever is probably not for you). If you want a younger dog then wait till Feb/march time - all the rescues are inundated with the cute Christmas presents who are no longer convenient to their owners. All in a package deal that is normally a lot cheaper than "buying".
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride9
