Allocated parking. Neighbour’s been using our parking space

Thank you for the kind advice and suggestions. We have read them all and decided to talk to our next-door neighbour. Actually, there were two cars that were alternately using our parking spot, it was usually a blue car but for the last two nights it was a black car. We know (or at least have an idea) that they were both from our next-door neighbour so last night we rang them. The lady of the house just peeked through her bedroom window and we asked if that was her car parked in our spot in which she denied and I said okay and sorry for the bother. Though I am still convinced that the black car was from them or may be their roommates’ but fine. Now this morning the black car was gone so I hurriedly put the one of our wheelie bins in our spot. I was actually a bit hesitant (and scared) at first but in the end I went on and did it to assert that I own that spot (or at least it’s allocated to me).
Now it’s a waiting game on how our neighbour(s) will react. I will keep you updated.
Thank you all.Kind regards,
KatAlthough I’m excited for the updates of the sting operation.DIP 09/02/21

Hey guys!A quick update! My wheelie bin operation worked!!! The black car is back but now it’s parked in the unallocated spot. They got the message! It’s a successssss!!!!!!Will still leave the wheelie bin outside for a couple of days. We don’t how long they will not be using our parking spot so just to be sure that we really sent the message across I will leave it outside for now.10

KatGood! At least if it's not that neighbours car you have put them on notice not to use your space. There are parking apps where you can list your space for hire by the hour/day/week/month (I use it myself to rent a space for one of my cars at the moment). You could list your space on that so that someone uses it (with your permission and you'll get some income from it). Otherwise I would look to put something more permanent to stop others parking there - a post or maybe even buy/borrow a tailer or something to park on the spot for now (or if you're near 6 o'clock on the M25 I might rent it!).

Just be careful you aren't breaking any rules leaving your bin out!
Sounds daft, but our council says you can't put your bins out before a certain time the night before collection and have to have them in by a certain after too. They don't really enforce it but some might!0 -
We had this problem once - it was very annoying because we didn't have a car but we regularly had visitors who did, but because we didn't have our own car the neighbours didn't see the problem in borrowing our space.
We solved the issue by moving... (admittedly this was years and years ago - we were young and renting but it was still a pain in the butt!)0 -
