Hope I'm not going over things covered before but you don't have any firewalls running while you're trying to sort this problem do you?0

i have certainly had experiance where an uninstall of a firewall left a filter on my NIC blocking all traffic.
doesn't sound quite the same symptoms but very similar.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0 -
I second that. After unintalling ZA Pro once I found I couldn't get on the net so had to install and then uninstall it and it worked fine.woo wrote:i have certainly had experiance where an uninstall of a firewall left a filter on my NIC blocking all traffic.

The same could be said of AntiVirus software. I had the same problem with the fast NOD32 AntiVirus. Having made network changes I found I couldn't get online so after a lot of messing around with firewall, etc I then decided to uninstall NOD32 and the internet access was ok again. I since noticed that NOD32 has an option to 'Automatically detect network changes' and a 'Repair Now' button. If only I had bothered reading any destructions(!) for it0 -
Can you ping one of the PC's that's working? (run ipconfig on the PC you want to ping to get the IP Address first)
Post here the IP of the PC you ping as well.
If you're upto Local Area Connection 7 then I would be tempted to uninstall the NIC and also take it out of the PC all together and then boot it up so it hasn't got a network card. I *think* this remove all your current network settings so you can start clean again.
Put the NIC back in and let windows install it (don't plug it into the router until it has been installed). You should then only have one thing in My Network Places, which would be a Local Area Connection. Reboot.
Run the "Setup a home or small office network" wizard. Select the "This computer connects through a residential gateway or another computer" option. Make sure workgroup is the same as other PC's. You should then be surfing in a few mins after a reboot
Use the ping tool to check you can ping the router and other PC's before using the web browsers.
If that doesn't work update router firmware as well.0 -
Thanks for all mentioning firewalls over again! I had Sygate remnants which I uninstalled & it worked straight away.

The only thing I can't do now is get updates from Avast... does anyone have Avast and know what to do about it? I've checked settings on Avast & router but it says it can't find a server to download from.Torgwen..........

So do you have no firewall at all now? If you're managing to get to other sites/pages ok and you have some other firewall running then perhaps not all avast components have been allowed access.
Do you get the same result using manual update (right click avast icon, choose updating, then choose either to update database or program).
What is exact error message?
Also check avast proxy setting. Right click avast icon, select Program Settings, Update (Basic), Details, Proxy - normally should have Direct Connection (no proxy) selected I believe.0
