Go to Start > All programs >Accessories >Command prompt
to get a window, then do it.
I suspect you are doing it from Start > Run0 -
Yes I was.
It says:-
Primary DNS suffix..... (blank)
Mode type... mixed
IP routing enabled - no
WINS proxy enabled - no
Other addresses under Internet NIC seem to be ok
Also:
Ethernet adaptor Local Area Connection 7 (the icon was coming up as 5 before)
Is the Tunnel adaptor info relevant? Under that it says:
Netbios over Tcpip - disabled and
DHCP enabled ...noTorgwen..........

So you have an IP address for the NIC of 192.168.0.? and your routers address for default gateway.
I believe you have other PCs connected to the router. How do your results compare if you do the same ipconfig /all on them?0 -
Exactly the same except on non-working computer:
Under DNS server it has (extra):
fec0:0:ffff::1x1
fec0:0:fff::2x1
fec0:0:ffff::3x1
and also has additional info about "Tunnell Adapter Toredo Tunneling Pseudo-Interface and
Tunnel Adaptor Automatic Tunnelling Pseudo-Interface

Time to reset your TCP/IP stack for that broken computer.
Click Run, type cmd (xp) or command (98). At the > prompt tpye the below.
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
This will reset your TCP/IP stack. Reboot, this should now clear all your IP's in the network controller options. These will need setting back up if you configured your network manualy.
If you have played with Dr.TCP to tweak BB settings such as MTU/RWIN then the reset line above is great for a reset back to how it was originally. Not sure if this works using Windows98 actualy.......

Is the non working computer the only one with Windows XP SP2? That extra stuff is something to do with IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) which Microsoft has implemented I think. (If the other PCs have XP SP2 maybe this IPv6 has somehow not been enabled.)
Anyway, I'm not sure that's at the heart of the problem so won't bother uninstalling it for now. I'm still looking at other possibilities. Will post when I have any suggestions (no doubt others will too).0 -
The only protocol you need is TCP/IP for home networking.

I typed in netsh etc. and rebooted, have been over settings again but nothing working still.
The LAN connecting is ok though & always has been
... I just don't know enough to know what I should really be doing with this I've spent so many hours on it going round in circles.
When I typed in the above it didn't appear to do anything... should it have?Torgwen..........
