This is the site feedback section of the forum, but sadly, you won't get any feedback.
However, I think the answer is probably ... never!

There are 3 main boards closed to make way for the 3 covid boards at the top of the forum, when they go, the others have a chance of returning.

  • One of the UK's biggest discussion forums is to close their equivalent of the MoneySavers Arms and discussion forums this week. For the exact same reasons that the moderators here have closed the relevant forums. I know of another smaller forum that is closing at the end of the month because of the ever increasing moderation demands on their time due to political discussion. As a result, they've thrown in the towel.

It ain't coming back. No website (bar a few fringe invitation only, small member number forums) wants to moderate such topics and the big social media websites with their resources, AI and workload find it all a headache as well that they'd rather do without (hence the mass suspensions, shadowbanning and ever increasing policies).

The easy(ish) way around that is to have a blanket ban on discussions around politics or religion, other forums do the same and it works.

Not the ideal solution as it does dilute what could potentially be some interesting discussion but does at least allow for the more light hearted threads a lot of us used to like in the 'Arms.

The offshoot from the MoneySaver Arms started by Cornucopia and discussing quite a few of the same sorts of issues (including politics) is trucking along well. Not a huge number of members but not invitation only. Well moderated and from what I can tell not too much intervention needed in the discussions.

Since DT closed i've been an infrequent visitor to MSE, I had a look earlier at the Grabbit board and there are only around 6 new threads this year, back in the day you would see a dozen or more a day, the truth of the matter is MSE is dying a long lingering slow death, replaced by forums that do a better job, and by social media that seems less clunky and more upto date.
Its a shame but nothing that stands still in the digital age lives that long now.
