Tbh, the onky time id be using headphones is on buses or trains ( pre Covid ) but am reluctant to buy Bluetooth ones as the on ear ones I have are fine .0 -
There's earphones in the box, just checked. Although I've not checked where they plug into as yet.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -

Ok, just checked. The earphones plug into the lightning connector, there isn't a separate headphone jack, which does limit your options.

The problem is not widespread, but a number of iPhone users face this issue, particularly iPhone 5 users, based on the complaints we receive and threads on Apple Support Forums like this one. Here are some ways you can try to repair it.Make your iPhone reset If you have an issue with your iPhone, one of the first things that you can do is reset it. By pressing and holding both the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10 seconds, you can do this. Don't release the buttons until the Apple logo is clear to you. If a hard reset does not turn your iPhone back on, then connect your iPhone to a charger. If your iPhone turns back on (with charge left), then it highly likely that your iPhone’s battery is defective. You can try restoring your iPhone to see if it helps, but if the problem crops up again, then you should take your iPhone to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized service center to get the battery or iPhone replaced.

It did cross my mind to reset . What is stopping me , is that I don't want to lose messages / phone contacts etc .Not to bothered about emails , apps or photos , as I have those on my other Apple devices .0 -
Can't you back those up to icloud first? All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

OP, my SE has the same problem. My battery is at 85% and I seem to recall you can't trust the battery when they only charge to 80%. Got a bit of life left in it, and in my case I'd replace the battery rather than the phone.
Can you expand icloud storage temporarily? Or can you back up an iphone on a macbook.
It's about £50 to get a new battery. I'd like to keep this phone going as long as possible. No point joining the costly consumer carousel that Apple is happy to keep turning at our massive expense. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0
