We had to have a smart meter installed for the tariff we're on - 5p/KWh overnight for car charging (going up soon, but still much cheaper - we're relooking at what we can run overnight now!). The inconvenience is a small price to pay for the cheap electricity, but I don't really understand why it doesn't work properly!

That's ridiculous they've upped your DD! Hope you can make them put it back down again. We're coming to the end of winter, surely they should be putting it down!

We had a smart meter installed in the old house, and it was fine. I've been reluctant here because we've had the builders in and I just couldn't face anyone else being here, or the prospect if anything else going wrong...
The Summer winter difference shouldn't be huge, since our heating is gas, I suppose we might use the oven less? I think discretion is the better part of valour in your situation, CD!

I'm not sure anyone really understands smart meters :D

We don't have smart meters but we mostly run both the dishwasher and washing machine (on delay) overnight to take a tiny bit of pressure off the National Grid at peak times.

OK, I meant 'beginning', obviously!! But 'begging to want to punch' just about works!

I fast forward through adverts (or mute and use my phone if it's live) - glad to know that it's because of an advert that you're going for Albert  :D

I also ignore the begging from my utilities provider to have a smart meter - I've heard so many "not smart after provider change" stories, and promises that it isn't like that any more, I've washed my hands of it all.  Though yes, if I get a hybrid car, it might be necessary as part of a deal for cheap overnight electricity.

We never had a problem with ours in the old house, it's not just you!
I think we use lights far less in the summer of course, and I have an electric heater in the study which obviously fluctuates through the year. We'll see what happens to our DD.

I'm sure it's just that those with problems are most vocal on the smart meters, but they did fulfill all of my fears and reasons for resisting :| . Anyway, I'm fully expecting my water bill to go down this year - after two years with the three of us at home, no gym (I rarely shower at home when it's open), all those toilet flushes, dishwasher twice a day instead of once, DD showering for something to do :o

I finally got round to cancelling the pet health plan - it was good value all the while they covered health checks every six months (stopped for covid and never reinstated), and when pet vacines were actually available - they were delayed by covid and now there is a waiting list for feline boosters because of a shortage coming in to the country. Other things they discount I don't need. The money will go into the cat self-insurance account - hence forth known as 'four-legged money drain' account :D (not really, big dog saved me from a very deep bout of depession, small dog is utterly devoted to me and makes me smile, and as for my benevolent mistress Puss - she simply graces us with her presence!).

    Anyway time for work.
