@LadyWithAPlan I think robvacs are best for hard floors - the whole of our downstairs is laminate, also because pets
- but does get very tangled with hair, so I'm not sure how it would cope with carpets. The mop function is fine for damping down, but not as good as a steam mop for actually cleaning, and because of the size of our downstairs, needs to be filled and the microcloth changed three times for a full clean, so unlike the vac function, I have to be around while it works. Ours cost about £200 two years ago, and there is much better choice of less expensive ones now.
Well, the Unions and Universities have failed to agree this year's pay increase (again) we didn't get one at all last year, but I'm not sure whether there was an agreement but our Uni didn't implement it because of covid finances. They are implementing the 1.5% offer anyway, better than nothing I suppose, but it feels like a real kicker in the light of Senior Management rises (esp Vice Chancellors) and the only thanks we got for keeping the show on the road was a thank you card that had a definite 'with deepest sympathy' vibe about it (if anyone on here also got a black thank you card with a picture of a lily on it - "Hello").

Thanks for the robo vac advice and knowledge on the mop function. Was looking at the roomba combo which I think I can get for £250 with cashback and a deal but apparently that mop is equally just a surface refresh as well.
Now a friend recommended a g9070 just was £200 now £110 Inc a mop so I am gonna be MSE and go cheap..DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Wow, that is an awful card to receive Chiglepig. And what a kick in the teeth about the pay too.

Eek, that sounds like a dreadful card!
We've not had anything other than emails (yet...). From memory I think they did fail to agree last year (we didn't get anything last year, so if we're getting 1.5% this year that's better than nowt I guess).

@South_coast - I'd be happier if I thought you were getting paid for it!@Cheery_Daff I just hope UCU doesn't get millitant.@themadvix, they work where they work - if you have consistent clear floors, they are great, but you still need to do corners (occasionally) and skirting. If you get a steam mop, invest in extra cloth covers.@LadyWithAPlan that's what we did - went cheap to see if it worked for us. When Vaccy (yes he has a name) dies, I imagine we might invest a little more.@Karmacat, that hadn't even occurred to me - highly inappropriate2014 starting mortgage £165,0002015 second charge £20,000 - Jan 2021 paid off in fullCurrent outstanding balance - £115,8563

Love my robovac 😍🤩 - we have a roborock S5. Copes wonderfully well with both hard floors and carpets - our whole house is a mix- although is not brill at collecting up black sock fluff - but the Dyson isn't unless you go over it several times, either! DD and I both have longer hair and it collects that fine
Moves fine between differing heights and I can zone out areas using the app. Mop isn't as good as doing it 'properly' myself - but the robovac (Robbie) mops far more often than I did, so it kinda evens out!
