DLA to PIP backdated?

With a NEW CLAIM for DLA the applicant was not receiving any money whilst waiting for their application to be decided.0

RobinHill said:_shel: How did / does it work under DLA or PIP? On review and awarded a lower rate was the difference recovered? No is wasn't. Was any increase backdated? Yes it is.Well actually for PIP that's not quite correct because it depends when the decision was made. Once it's made if the award is lower then sometimes the claimant will have an overpayment. For reviews there's no backdated money but reporting a change of circumstances for PIP if the award is higher then it's backdated. No idea about DLA.I know i said i was out on this but just needed to correct you here.2

I have just completed this process and to be honest I didn’t consider entitlements to a back payment should rates be higher on PIP. My biggest concern was being turned down and facing a MR, tribunal while caring for a very ill child. The relief when awarded was huge. Put your energies into chasing up your assessment and preparing for the assessment. Then requesting the report to allow a indication of what (if at all) the award will be. Stressing over lost back payment will not help.5

Apologies poppy12345 I meant on applying due to a change in circumstances not review. I am not being reviewed, I have reported a change in circumstances. On DLA and PIP under a CoC any increase in award would be backdated to the date of the claim. I have reported a CoC, it is not a review or invitation to apply for PIP.0

Yes i understand you reported a CoC but it makes no difference, if you're awarded a higher PIP amount because PIP and DLA are 2 completely different benefits.

Well it is funny how they have pretty much identical rates of pay if they are meant to be completely different, no?0
-
The rates for standard and Enhanced are the same as DLA mid/high rate for both parts BUT the criteria for both is completely different, which makes them 2 totally different benefits. We do seem to be going round in circles and awful lot here.

If they are totally different benefits then it seems somewhat odd that they manage to conclude paying the same amounts? I would proffer the notion that they are in fact exactly the same benefit in principle. It is just that the government wished to change the criteria to meet any perceived short coming of the DLA system, and the simplest way of doing this politically was to invent a "new" benefit.0
