Anybody can pay cash into your account; is there nobody else who could do this for you during the week? All they'll need is your sort code and account number and the name the account is held in. They'll be offered a receipt for the deposit which they can pass on to you if needed.
I don't believe this to be the case anymore - most, if not all, banks require ID verification for cash deposits, typically via the debit card for the account.
As i can't work out this new bloody forum with the quotes, i'll have to make a second post rather than edit the first now that i'm on page 2 of the thread.

    The above quote ^^^ and...

Many banks no longer allow cash to be deposited by someone who is not named on the account. All to do with potential money laundering.
    ^^^ This one too.
I've experienced this myself. Last year or the year before, I can't really remember, I tried paying in some money for my brother as I was off work that week and he wasn't. The bank wouldn't let me pay it in.

Yes the new forum is vastly inferior for us posters, but at least you've worked out how to multi-post!
But why can't your employer pay you by bank transfer/faster payment?

What gave you the impression that the money is from OP's employer?  While OP was a tad evasive when asked about its source, it didn't sound like pay:
Where is the cash coming from & how much are we talking about ??
It's coming from my wallet and we're not talking about thousands.

    No, just a one off.

Can't you pay the cash in at a cash machine?
I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?

Oh thanks, I missed the bit about just a one off.

    I wasn't aware you could.

Even if you can (I'll assume you can by you saying that) I wouldn't trust it.

If a machine in the bank goes wrong I can say hey your machine in this bank has gone wrong.
Or I can hand it to a person.

If i put it in a machine outside and something goes wrong, it's a bit more faffy to get it sorted.

Yep I was evasive for good reason - it doesn't matter about its origin. It's cash in a wallet. If it comes from a friend, a boss, a family member, a gutter or if i pick it from a money tree, it's still cash in my wallet that I want paying in to an account. It's not millions or thousands so it's not really any questionable amount.

Will be trying the post office approach at the weekend. Thankfully i'm with enough banks to be able to get it sorted.
  • I have some birthday money and wanted to pay it into the bank, but couldn't as all the branches are shut on a Saturday now and I can't get there Mon-Fri.   Flipping annoying!

Have you actually read the thread?
There's no need to be annoyed as there are lots of ways to pay in on Saturdays - cash machines and the post office are the easiest.
