I don't believe this to be the case anymore - most, if not all, banks require ID verification for cash deposits, typically via the debit card for the account.Placitasgirl said:Anybody can pay cash into your account; is there nobody else who could do this for you during the week? All they'll need is your sort code and account number and the name the account is held in. They'll be offered a receipt for the deposit which they can pass on to you if needed. As i can't work out this new bloody forum with the quotes, i'll have to make a second post rather than edit the first now that i'm on page 2 of the thread. The above quote ^^^ and...
^^^ This one too.sheramber said:Many banks no longer allow cash to be deposited by someone who is not named on the account. All to do with potential money laundering.I've experienced this myself. Last year or the year before, I can't really remember, I tried paying in some money for my brother as I was off work that week and he wasn't. The bank wouldn't let me pay it in.0 -
Yes the new forum is vastly inferior for us posters, but at least you've worked out how to multi-post!
But why can't your employer pay you by bank transfer/faster payment?0 -
What gave you the impression that the money is from OP's employer? While OP was a tad evasive when asked about its source, it didn't sound like pay:nottsphil said:OP why can't your employer pay you by bank transfer/faster payment?JustAnotherSaver said:

No, just a one off.DCFC79 said:Is the cash going to be regular ?Yep I was evasive for good reason - it doesn't matter about its origin. It's cash in a wallet. If it comes from a friend, a boss, a family member, a gutter or if i pick it from a money tree, it's still cash in my wallet that I want paying in to an account. It's not millions or thousands so it's not really any questionable amount. Will be trying the post office approach at the weekend. Thankfully i'm with enough banks to be able to get it sorted.1 -
I have some birthday money and wanted to pay it into the bank, but couldn't as all the branches are shut on a Saturday now and I can't get there Mon-Fri. Flipping annoying!Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £18,886.270

Have you actually read the thread?Abbafan1972 said:I have some birthday money and wanted to pay it into the bank, but couldn't as all the branches are shut on a Saturday now and I can't get there Mon-Fri. Flipping annoying!
There's no need to be annoyed as there are lots of ways to pay in on Saturdays - cash machines and the post office are the easiest.2
