How can normal people pay cash in at the bank?

The post office might be the best option they are open Saturday and Sunday and late nights depending on the area you live.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0

Though the Post Office is open on Saturdays and I know a lot of Metro Bank branches are also open on Saturdays, most high street banks seem to close on Saturdays so working 5 days a week (Monday to Friday) can be the problem.DCFC79 said:Is the cash going to be regular ?
So you work 6 days a week ? I guess some people might.
Can you ask someone to pay it in for you ?0 -
It seems you have enough cash to pay for shopping. Why do you want to bank it?3

Anybody can pay cash into your account; is there nobody else who could do this for you during the week? All they'll need is your sort code and account number and the name the account is held in. They'll be offered a receipt for the deposit which they can pass on to you if needed.0

I don't believe this to be the case anymore - most, if not all, banks require ID verification for cash deposits, typically via the debit card for the account.Placitasgirl said:Anybody can pay cash into your account; is there nobody else who could do this for you during the week? Many banks no longer allow cash to be deposited by someone who is not named on the account. All to do with potential money laundering.3

OP why not use the cash to pay for the shopping unless you are doing online shopping?2

Our neighbours pay my husband in cash for the weekly shopping run we do for them. We just use the self-service tills at the supermarket and return their change to them, along with their shopping.#2 Saving for Christmas 2024 - £1 a day challenge. £325 of £3663

This is a pain, but unless you were wanting to transfer the cash into savings/investments then its usually easier to just to spend it and let the equivalent sit in your bank not getting used. My problem with that is I keep forgetting I have cash and use my card on autopilot!
Or, if you have a friend or family member who prefers cash, or struggles to get to an ATM etc. then tyou could give them the cash and they transfer the equivalent to you online/over the phone.2 -

As above, wasn't aware of this. Thanks for link.colsten said:With very few exceptions, you can pay cash into your bank through the post office https://www.postoffice.co.uk/everydaybanking
Well technically yes of course I could.Thrugelmir said:Can you not spend the cash rather than bank it?
My bad. It's notes.p00hsticks said:Mickey666 said:
That only works if we are talking about notes rather than coins - the OP wasn't specific about which they were referring to.Find a cash machine that accepts deposits. I've used them many times for cheques but they also accept cash. You just select 'deposit' from the menu and the machine will issue an envelope. You put your cheque or cash in the envelope and enter the amount, you then insert the envelope into the machine and it issues a receipt.
I always used to use Nationwide to pay cash (notes) or cheques in, as they were the only ones round here where you could do it via ATMS actually situated outside the branch. and hence could still use when the branch was closed for the day. Unfortunately the removed the ATM when they permanently closed the branch :-(
It's coming from my wallet and we're not talking about thousands.greyteam1959 said:Where is the cash coming from & how much are we talking about ??
No, just a one off.DCFC79 said:Is the cash going to be regular ?

Can you ask someone to pay it in for you ?Yes, unlike (I am guessing) many on here I have to work 6 day weeks at approx. 60 hours per week. Out of a 4-week cycle I will only get 1 Saturday off work. It's crap but it's the way it is.I also don't know of anyone who goes in to town, especially with everything shut. My mother will bypass town to do her food shop. My wife is in a similar Monday-Friday situation as myself, although isn't tortured with the weekend work.2
