  • Grumpy I have asked these questions too.

Here's another question, why did you accept the can back from copart with additional damage?  Why then did you repair that additional damage before agreeing  terms with the insurance company.

This story has more holes in it than the titanic.

    Copart deal with write-offs.
They move vehicles with fork lifts, usually because they don't actually roll.

The key here really is what the salvage value of the van was, the proportion of the payout which the OP gave up in order to get his written-off van back - and what that salvage value would have been with the additional damage... I rather suspect £1k is generous for the difference between those figures.

You've given them until the 15th June?  You're obviously not in a hurry!
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Unless it was last June, and this has been dragging on since then...

Going back to the OP, assuming the "puddly birthday" of damage is actually some kind of relatively minor cosmetic damage, then I presume the van was low value, hence being written off (Cat N?) so easily. Which'd mean the salvage value was three shiny buttons and a werther's original (half-sucked, pocket lint attached). Which'd mean that the £3k extra damage is cloud cuckoo land.
  • So, you had the van and it was written off by the insurer as "beyond economical repair".
What was the value of the van before the accident?
What were you paid as the insurance write-off value?
What did you buy the van back for?
Then, you bought the van back and got an additional £1k for the extra damage.
yes we got the van back as i got a garage to look at the pictures taken of the original damage and they said it wouldn’t cost that much so i thought ok i know the van had it since new i will take it back ( the papers never changed hands the cab was never deregistered from myself.
yes they gave me the insurance value well the their value !
I never got anything for the additional damage that what i’m trying to find out what i can do about it they offered me £1000 but the amount to fix was £3000
  • How much was your van worth?  Hows much did they pay out for the claim?  How much did you pay to buy back the salvage?  What damage did the van suffer in the accident and what additional damage occurred at Copart?

Your mistake was allowing the tow truck to take your van away, you should have had it taken home or safe premises you can control.
they said she was worth 8
they said it would cost 6 to fix ( it didn’t)
    hence the write off
the addiontal damage i had fixed cost £3000 they offered £1000 even though their engineers said the quote was fair which is why i got it fixed !
unfortunately since i’ve never had an accident before or ever had to deal with these companies i didn’t know not to give them my van!

they dumped it out side my house and ran at 6.30am when i got up it was there!
inrepaired it because they emailed saying their engineers thought it was a fair quote! i’m sorry i thought that meant it was going to be sorted i’m obviously very gullible!
    And really a bit rude!!!!

Repair cost is calculated using genuine parts and paying for labour. Obviously, a DIY fix using used parts will be a LOT cheaper.

So how much was the salvage value? If £8k was the write-off value, you would have given part of that up in return for keeping the van...

yes march 2020 it got hit!
no their company quoted £6000 of damage ( that was redicilous )  but it didn’t cost that much.
    van worth £8000
    extra damage £3000
