Warning Just answer web site

Hi all I contacted above site for Q n A session  paid for the question via my debit card and that  was what I  thought to be the end of it
however 12 months down the line I checked my bank statements (I know should be doing this anyway !) I discovered that they have been taking out £40 each month for a membership I did not sign up for . I contacted bank to cancel they could not cancel due to it being set up by my debit card they said to contact the company of which I did they have agreed to  cancel and I have also requested a refund waiting to see what happens
I then did some research on the company oh my lord the complaints forum is horrifying all saying the same thing as me, being charged for membership without their knowledge
some having to change their account numbers to stop their account being debited even after cancellation  serious issues re refunds...
I have had no confirmation re membership in fact no contact at all and that's why I didnt pick up on this I have checked my emails going back 12 months
I just think after reading everything I could about this company it is the most sophisticated  unethical business practise I have come across (maybe I am being niave  )
Please Please be careful ...............

  • It says there's a monthly membership fee:

    https://www.justanswer.co.uk/info/how-it-works
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Ah now theres the rub I did not  access it through the uk site it came up on a search that I was doing at the time -justanswer.com but it is the same company-, it is not uk based and  shows itself to be based in the USA though it has offices in London.. since the issue has been identified I have now done some of  the research of this company
1/I do implore you to check out the justanswer.com  complaints forum and they are having the same experiences as me
2/ there is no acknowledgment that they/ I signed up for a membership (I have had no emails whatsoever in 12 months to confirm this or any customer service acknowledgement)
3/monies have been taken out of accounts without people knowing
4/people have suffered hardship as a result of poor issue of cancellation  and refunds
    5/ customer service poor
6/ so I am not the only one who feels duped
The site may look professional and state all the right things in its statement however the outcomes are not positive for too many people there is a real dark side to this level of business practise and it is all over the internet .....Buyer Beware !!
    please please take heed
I will continue to keep you posted of any developments

I think it's always wise to do your research up-front before committing to pay any money.
I'd have taken a quick look at the website and backed away.
The co.uk websites clearly says they are "We are located in the beautiful redeveloped Presidio of San Francisco, Golden Gate National Recreation Area.".
The .com website has this on their home page:
The expert answer to virtually every question
Chat with all kinds of Experts for personalized help, 24/7.

    Join for only £50/month.

    Did you miss it?
Did you read everything before you gave your credit card details?

I guess it's shown that you should check your bank account on a regular basis.
I hope you get your refund.
  • Hi yes for sure I do agree with you but for some bizarre reason I did not see it or check it out I'm so annoyed with myself as this has never happened to me before and I feel such a fool this is a very serious lesson to learn !
there is also an overview via the site S LEGIT and they give a balanced review with a very (eyes wide open) warning about Justanswer
if I had have done due diligence so to speak I would  have run a mile!!
Thanks so much for replying --its a very scarey experience !--

At least it's shown you that you can't trust any website, hopefully now you're aware it will be the last time it happens to you.
And you are not the only one.
I posted this on another similar thread the other day:

I trust no website - unless I've fully checked out who they are, where they operate from, delivery terms and refund policies and anything else that might cause me problems.
It's a sad world we live in when you have a starting point that you are going to be scammed until you prove otherwise but that's where we are.

  • oh yes I forgot to update I have received an email from customer services stating that they cannot find my account related  to my email address and have requested me to send details of the Q n A session and details of my card first numbers and last numbers I have duly given link of my Q n A session and date  which states that I was a guest in the link but scared to give details of my card at this time awaiting further response ......as I believe they should have  all the details surely ? as  I have  had no response from them detailing my membership I do not have an account number to forward to them.... lordy I  don't  know if this is a delaying tactic or poor service........scarey !!

Are you able to cancel direct debits on bank app? I am able to with Nationwide.

My policy is that if a company insist on bank details to pay for a 'free' sample p&p instead of, say, a cheque then I assume the worst and don't bother.

It won't be a Direct Debit if the OP provided card details, it will simply be a reoccurring card payment.
