Air source/Heat Pump operation help

  • Hi, I’m a bit late to this party but have been looking at the Dimplex Edal 270 hot water tank with ASHP and it seems to fit my requirements. I live in the Scottish highlands so no gas and have to use Oil for my heating and the hot water, but want to slowly take my oil out of the equation. I have solar and batteries and have been looking at the Sunamp hot water but its expensive and still not widely understood by the people that are even selling it (I seem to have more information on it than the actual people that sell them as installers!! Which kinda puts me off). The Dimplex looks like it would be a good solution and cheaper. I’m thinking if I install it as a direct replacement for my normal hot water tank (oil and electric element for back up) it should work out cheaper than the Sunamp and give me a more efficient setup ? If I use it in combination with my Octopus Go cheap rate of 7.5p kWh and set it to heat the water between 0030 and 0430 then it should be more than hot enough during the morning showers and evening showers as well as general hot water during the day (washing dishes etc) I think it only loses about 1.5kWh of heat in 24 hours ?? I think my cost would be a lot less than what im paying for my oil usage and using the cheap rate to get it up to temp at night and then just a low trickle from the ASHP during the Day to keep it topped up.
