Currys refusing to refund £1800

This isn't just something the law allows. It's something the law has specifically said you have the right to do - that you have the right to cancel for any or even no reason. It's a bit like saying an employee messes around their employer because they ask to take annual leave or that you've messed around a retailer by returning goods that weren't as described/broken/defective or by ordering multiple sizes, knowing full well you'd have to return some of them.MattMattMattUK said:
The law entitles you do to a lot of things, that does not mean that you can not mess someone or an organisation around whilst staying within the law.George_Michael said:
How can it be classed as messing a retailer around if you are only doing as the law entitles you to do?MattMattMattUK said:
They were happy to buy something at the published price, they then suffered buyers remorse and decided to take some actions to get it cheaper after they had already purchased it. I would say that was messing Currys around and I generally have no sympathy for Currys.Manxman_in_exile said:The OP hasn't really messed curry's around though, have they? Curry's could simply have honoured the discount code without the OP having to return the original TV and re-order an identical one. Curry's gave the OP no other option to get the saving.
If Currys don't want the hassle of dealing with consumers changing their minds and returning goods then they shouldn't be selling online.
I think about buying things, if I want them then I buy them, I do not change my mind post purchase. Yes I return items which are not as described, damaged/broken/otherwise defective, or if clothing size is an issue I use Amazon Wardrobe which is specifically set up to allow you to purchase more than one size of the item and return the size which you do not want.

Now you're just making things up. The law didn't say that 300 years ago, let alone 150.burlingtonfl6 said:

What you may be thinking of is that around 140 years ago, there was a law introduced to give women the right to legally separate from an abusive husband.
ETA: would you say a wife exercising that right has messed her husband about? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride2 -
Has that been repealed? Darn, just off to buy some flowers.burlingtonfl6 said:150 years ago the law said you could beat your wife, doesn't make it right.I don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0 -
I have an update on this! After 5 full days of messages back and forth on facebook messenger they have told me numerous different things. Eventually they confessed that there’s been an error at their end (didn’t explain quite what the error was) and that they have now cancelled the order thus generating an automatic refund. Won’t be convinced until it is fully processed but my perseverance has paid off. It’s a ridiculous state of affairs that it’s taken me this much hassle to get the refund and I can fully understand why there are so many extremely unhappy customers on their Facebook page. I’ve learnt a valuable lesson from all this though and will be getting proof of collection should I ever have to return goods to any company in the future. Thanks for all the input on here guys, it’s much appreciated.Paul.0

I'm afraid that's the wrong lesson. It should be not to buy from Curry's again. I would never drop that amount of money on a TV at Currys when you have decent retailers such as Richer Sounds or John Lewis.Futurefreak said:I have an update on this! Well, if all you have to try to back up an argument is the possibility of what a 150 year old law covering a totally different subject may have stated, I think it's time that you gave up on this particular thread.burlingtonfl6 said:

Anyway, as this is the Consumer rights forum, what consumer law states doesn't have to make it right, it simply has to make it legal.

I've never worked at Currys or know anyone that does or own any shares/etc. I will say that we have bought many items over the years in store and recent years online. They've always been 10/10. If prices are the same, then I go for John Lewis.Al_Ross said:Futurefreak said:I have an update on this!
