Currys refusing to refund £1800

I tend to stop looking at how much something costs to buy once I have bought it as it is highly unusual to intend to buy a second identical one within a two weeks so I probably would not even notice. I have, as I am sure most people have, bought something, only to later find it has gone on sale/been reduced, I, and most people never choose to return that item and then buy it again.Manxman_in_exile said:I don't particularly need £300 but if I were in the OP's position I'd do exactly the same as he has done. But you are saying you wouldn't because you wouldn't want to mess Curry's around? Very admirable but not very sensible.

Well if you are content to do that - fine. But just because you choose to do something one way does not necessarily mean that someone choosing another approach is in the wrong. Can you explain to me exactly what the OP is doing wrong and why they are messing Curry's about rather than the other way round? Curry's are meant to refund within 14 days.0

How can it be classed as messing a retailer around if you are only doing as the law entitles you to do?MattMattMattUK said:
They were happy to buy something at the published price, they then suffered buyers remorse and decided to take some actions to get it cheaper after they had already purchased it. I would say that was messing Currys around and I generally have no sympathy for Currys.Manxman_in_exile said:The OP hasn't really messed curry's around though, have they? Curry's could simply have honoured the discount code without the OP having to return the original TV and re-order an identical one. Curry's gave the OP no other option to get the saving.
If Currys don't want the hassle of dealing with consumers changing their minds and returning goods then they shouldn't be selling online.1 -
For a few £s, I'd agree with you but for a £300 saving, I suspect that an awful lot of people most certainly would opt to return the goods, get a sizeable refund then rebuy at the lower price.MattMattMattUK said:

Last month I rejected a laptop I bought from Curry’s as it had intermittent issues with a webcam, it was an automatic process and was collected by courier and I was given a scanned receipt.OP was the courier who collected the item aware he was taking back the old one, I know that is a daft question but I wonder if he just took it thinking he had missed some instructions or something and it has never got back to the correct place?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Good point but OP says: "So Currys know that he was here and the driver also stated that he wasn’t allowed to leave both on the premises."

The OP has already stated it was Currys Knowhow who delivered one tv and removed his other one at the same time.
The problem area here might be, did Knowhow have paper work or a job to remove his first TV. If not then there would be no record on the system, and the drivers may have got themselves a free TV, or it could be lying in their warehouse as an unknown tv.
This could turn out to be a real messy case, and as it is Currys, well you know!!!!

The driver said he wasn't allowed to leave both tellies on the premises. That suggests to me it was scheduled collection of the original set from the OP as well as delivering the re-ordered one

I still sometimes have nightmares about working for Currys.I was their tv Engineer for 10 years covering north east Scotland, left about 15 years ago.

The law entitles you do to a lot of things, that does not mean that you can not mess someone or an organisation around whilst staying within the law.George_Michael said:

I think about buying things, if I want them then I buy them, I do not change my mind post purchase. Yes I return items which are not as described, damaged/broken/otherwise defective, or if clothing size is an issue I use Amazon Wardrobe which is specifically set up to allow you to purchase more than one size of the item and return the size which you do not want.0
