Viewing house before completion

We visited our future home after exchange, we’d last seen it at the viewing 6 months previous, we didn’t want to inspect anything and when sellers asked if we wanted to go upstairs we declined. We just attended to ask a few questions ie, alarm, green bin license did they renew, could we drop our guinea pig cages into garden the night before (minus the GP’s as they with another neighbour during the move 😀). We stayed no longer than 30 minutes and then wished them well.
The regulations state that households should not mix other than with their support bubble and people should not be making unnecessary journeys, which is clearly the case for the OP. There's absolutely no reason why the OP needs to physically go to the house simply to ask a few questions and even less reason for the seller to agree to it.0 -
I do feel slightly annoyed as it's a big purchase and I feel the sellers should be flexible and honour my request. I feel a bit deceived as when I last viewed the property the sellers suggested me to come round before completion for a handover. I could have been reasonable and said I want to come round the week before but thought I would give them notice as not to disrupt their move. I can't see what the inconvenience is as they are also working from home.
On the other hand in hindsight I should have gone to the property before exchange.
Also we are in lockdown and the questions can be answered over the phone or email.0 -
It annoys me that everyone on here seems to side with the sellers. Covid lockdown is irrelevant in this case.
Estate Agents, Removals, Deliveries, Gas and Electric Companies, Buyers, Valuers and god knows what else are attending the house, yet the person shelling out thousands for the purchase cannot have a view before they arrive with a removal van.
Typical Britain.0 -

If the buyer thought it was that important, they could have put it into the contract. Are you saying that a visit to ask questions about guinea pig cages is as equally important as the removal company coming to actually move the vendor's stuff out?6 -
Well lets hope this didn't happen to me before exchange, I would have withdrawn offer and allowed them to allow any old tom !!!!!! or Harry to return to view the property until sold. Then they can explain covid restrictions to me via zoom and expect me to put an offer in again, while ensuring its tied into the contract that I can attend for 10 minutes to view before exchange.
So yes, typical Britain!0 -
Before exchange it's a perfectly reasonable request. Afterwards it serves absolutely zero purpose so is the very definition of unnecessary.2

It serves no purpose - it does if you want to view and see what's what, not with the intention of withdrawing the offer, as you presume. My point made, small minds, small worlds, bigger minds, bigger picture.0

I'd love to go and view the property that I'm buying again, but I settle for looking at the photos on the listing because it would be selfish of me to travel during a pandemic and make the agent come out to let me into the house. (It's empty so I doubt the seller would say no if I did ask.) Plus I don't want to catch Covid off the agent and then not be able to complete because I'm sick.
