Viewing house before completion

  • They have probably got boxes and rubbish everywhere, plus trying to work - all adds to the stress. Don't overthink it.  I hadn't seen the property I viewed for 8 months when I completed. However, my buyers insisted on seeing my house again and it was a real stress as I was in the process of clearing it, but the recycling centre wasnt open so all my rubbish was piled up in the kitchen. It meant I had to take the day off work and go back to my house (I had moved in with my partner during first covid lockdown)  to clear the rubbish to the garage.  I didn't insist on revisting the house I was buying because of this.  On moving in day I was in awe of how much nicer the property was than I remembered it now it was empty!
  • That’s a bit unreasonable of the seller, I’d be very annoyed. Appreciate the house may be a bit chaotic with packing, but it’s not like you are going to pull out, exchange has already happened.
We visited our future home after exchange, we’d last seen it at the viewing 6 months previous, we didn’t want to inspect anything and when sellers asked if we wanted to go upstairs we declined. We just attended to ask a few questions ie, alarm, green bin license did they renew, could we drop our guinea pig cages into garden the night before (minus the GP’s as they with another neighbour during the move 😀). We stayed no longer than 30 minutes and then wished them well.

If, as you say in your opening post, the point is to "ask them questions", then why can't this be done over e-mail of phone?

If anyone wanted to "ask me questions", but insisted on coming inside my family home in the middle of a pandemic to do it, they would be given a polite but firm "no" as well.

Even if the house was immaculate it simply seems to make no sense.
    • The rich buy assets.
    • The poor only have expenses.
    • The middle class buy liabilities they think are assets.

Most sellers refuse because as soon as a sale is is agreed, they couldn't care less about the house anymore, roll on no cleaning, no gardening and the rest of it. Thats the root cause which is usually covered by working from home, visitors are here - bla bla bla.
They will allow removal men round, elec and gas people round, shopping, deliveries and all the rest BUT OH NO, NOT THE BUYERS
The buyers are just having a nosey, those other people are performing necessary activities... Bit different.

Was that during a pandemic when the whole country is in lockdown?

The regulations state that households should not mix other than with their support bubble and people should not be making unnecessary journeys, which is clearly the case for the OP.  There's absolutely no reason why the OP needs to physically go to the house simply to ask a few questions and even less reason for the seller to agree to it.
  • Our buyer came round SOOOO many times even after completion! Drove us nuts haha but we accomodated her.
We did 2 viewings before offer then 1 more after, but think that was after exchange as just needed to measure up some bits. Our vendor was fine with it and they were in middle of dismantling everything haha
  • Meant even after exchange 😅

It would have been her own house after completion, what were you still doing there?!
  • I hope to exchange on the 4th March and know a viewing is recommended.  I was thinking of asking, but I felt so stressed having prospective tenants viewing in this rental yesterday, I'm not going to bother.  The viewers were told to wear masks and gloves, the woman didn't have any, lucky I had some to give her.
